From the Fans Choice Awards to the Rising Star in Content Creation, players from all around the world will be honored when the 5th annual Global Poker Awards take place in Las Vegas. Will Daniel Negreanu win the Best Vlogger award? Could Jason Koon take home the trophy for Most Feared Opponent? If Jeff Platt interviews himself, will he be blocked from winning Best Broadcaster?

Female Nominations Dominate as Comesky and Spragg Set Up Trebles

With three nominations, the headlines simply must go to two emerging female players who have captured the imagination of the poker world in the same way that Barbie rocked the cinematic world in 2023. After voting panel members – including this reporter for Tight Poker – made their votes count in 16  categories, two female stars of the world of poker are up for three gongs each.

Caitlin Comesky, who won last year’s Global Poker Award for Rising Star in Content Creation could win in three categories this time around. Nominated as Best Short*Form Content Creator, Best Video Content and Best X/Twitter Personality, Comesky’s star is clearly on the rise and she should be rehearsing a speech as we speak.

Marle Spragg has burst into prominent life in the past couple of years and could win in all three of those same categories. Married to Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg, the Team PokerStars Pro, Marle Spragg has been one of the most outstanding content creators in the world of poker for some time and this week took no time to celebrate a nomination, instead putting out yet another hilarious video.

Which Big Names Could Win Awards?

With other multiple nominees such as Alexander ‘Wolfgang Poker’ Seibt also going for three categories, much of the focus will be on the biggest names and in which categories they could take home a Global Poker Award. One award is already decided before the ceremony takes place at the end of February, with Bin Weng due to be presented with the GPI Poker Player of Year trophy on Awards night. But which other big names will join him on stage?

Kristen Foxen will also win a gong for sure as she collects her fourth GPI Female Player of the Year award in five years, while Nick Pupillo will pick up the Mid-Major Player of the Year title. The GGPoker show ‘Game of Gold’ will also be victorious, with a GPI Award of Merit award already assured. The battle to be named ‘Players Choice for Toughest Opponent is a category sure to be fought over to the very end, with votes from the top 100 players in the world counting only. Up for that award are Stephen Chidwick, Alex Foxen, Isaac Haxton and Jason Koon. We can see Jason ‘King of Triton’ Koon taking the title.

In the fight for the Best Final Table Performance award, Daniel Weinman’s WSOP Main Event victory goes up against Padraig O’Neill’s final table comeback win in Barcelona on the European Poker Tour, Daniel Sepiol’s WPT World Championship victory and perhaps the favorite in the category.

Other Awards To Look Out For

With so many awards up for grabs, some of the most interesting categories are those that look hard to call. Picking a Breakout Player of the Year between Jans Arends, William Kopp, Samuel Laskowitz and Santosh Suvarna looks extremely difficult, but we could see Arends snatching it for sheer consistency. In a female-dominated category, it’s hard to choose between Caitlin Comeskey, Will Jaffe, Jamie Kerstetter and Marle Spragg for Best X/Twitter Personality, but Comeskey might just snatch it from Spragg.

In the Best Industry Person category, Francine Watson’s dedication to the European Poker Tour and PokerStars LIVE coverage over the year may nudge it for her against heavyweight opponents in Ryan Beauregard, Mori Eskandani and WPT head Adam Pliska. Joe ‘Stapes’ Stapleton’s relentless campaigning isn’t for nothing and he credits Watson’s influence over so much work that has previously gone unnoticed that it may well be her year.

In the Best Streamer category, Kevin Martin, Benjamin Spragg,Bert Stevens and Lex Veldhuis will be desperate to claim bragging rights, while the Best Vlogger category is between five nominees as Jaman Burton, Corey Eyring, Daniel Negreanu, Brad Owen  and Alexander Seibt (a.k.a. Wolfgang Poker’) do battle.

Here are all the 5th Global Poker Awards nominees for the show which will take place on February 2024 on PokerGO:
