Stars such as Daniel Dvoress and Boris Angelov have already won titles in the French capital and with the $6,000 EPT Paris Main Event kicking off today, the drama is already starting at one of the European Poker Tour’s most iconic stops.

Angelov Captures Mystery Title

The €10,000 ($12,000) Mystery Bounty event kicked off proceedings in Paris, and the event was eventually won by the Bulgarian Boris Angelov for a total prize fund of $256,000. With a mammoth haul of 141,500 in bounties alone, Angelov’s win was worth $114,500 in terms of place prize, meaning he banked over a quarter of a million dollars for booking the win.

Players such as the Canadian pro Guillaume Nolet (11th for $10,200) and United Kingdom player Ian Bradley (10th for the same amount) both missed out on the final table but made money, while Russian GGMillion$ winner Artur Martirosian cashed for $12,000 in ninth place just outside the final table of eight.

At the final table, French crowds lost their home favorite first as Alex Reard won $33,500, before exits for Alex Kulev (7th for $46,500) and Swedish player Sven Andersson, who finished fourth for a total prize fund of $52,500. It was Angelov’s fellow Bulgarian Dimitar Danchev who made the heads-up to take on his countryman, but Angelov got the job done to claim the last bounty and a memorable win in the city of romance.

Daniel Dvoress Takes High Roller Opener

The Canadian player Daniel Dvoress captured the top prize of $337,450 when he topped 32 entries in the €25,000 ($29,500) Super High Roller. Only five players made the money places and meant some players of huge repute lost their way just outside the profit margin. Artur Martirosian, Orpen Kisacikoglu and Elias Gutierrez all busted in the places leading up to the final five. Once inside the profit places, Mike ‘SirWatts’ Watson won $84,350, before the Austrian player Klemens Roiter won $104,300 in fourth place and Kayhan Mokri claimed $144,300 in third.

Heads-up, it was a final duel featuring Dimitar Danchev again. Sadly for the Bulgarian, who had been runner-up in the Mystery Bounty event, he came in second again. It was the Canadian professional and WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Dvoress who captured the title, winning that heads-up and a top prize of $337,450.

Demus Defies the Odds

There were 2,992 entries in the €1,650 ($1,800) buy-in PokerStars Open Main Event, creating a prize pool of over $4.5 million. That meant 448 players got paid and their number included min-cashers Matt Davenport, David Docherty and Gabriel Tuna, each of whom racked up $3,000 in winnings.

Patrik Demus
Bulgarians enjoyed a field day in France as Patrik Demus reigned in the French capital.

Once the final table of eight was formed, five of those players hailed from the home country of France. However, an awful run for players from local surroundings meant Antoine Labat (8th), Ilan Cukrowicz (7th), Sebastien Seguin (6th) and Benoit Grobocopatel (5th) all crashed out ahead of the top four. Heads-up was between Patrik Demus and Enzo Nicolas as the final Frenchman made it to the last battle but he fell in second place for $408,500 as another Bulgarian took the title, Demus winning a top prize of $650,000.
