From huge guarantees to novel tournament formats, the cryptocurrency-based poker site CoinPoker has made a very big impression with its latest series, the Global Online Poker Championship (GOPC). Taking place over the past five weeks, the overall series guarantee of $50 million was smashed, as over $88 million was won by players at the online felt.

Huge Numbers Signify Success

The crypto poker site CoinPoker wrapped this week, as the inaugural Global Online Poker Championship concluded in style online. Running from August 23 to September 28, the series featured 6,321 tournaments and in paying out $88.44 million, improved on its guarantee by 77%.

With 37 days of massive action, the 37-day GOPC included 2.12 million tournament entries from an incredible 48,815 unique players who hailed from 172 countries. Of those events, eight of them had prize pools in seven figures, including the $530-entry Main Event, which brought in a massive 7,414 entries and of the $3.7 million prize pool, awarded the winner, ‘siema’ a top prize of $423,606.

With bigger entry events also thriving, such as the $25,500 Super High Roller Championship, where 51 total entries created a $1.27m prize pool, even the $1,500 CoinMasters BTC High Roller got 1,149 entries, eventually awarding a $300,025 top prize to ‘PistolWhip’, while the Austrian former footballer and CoinPoker ambassador Mario Mosböck finished in seventh place for a five-figure prize too.

Podium Race Winner Celebrates Epic Run

“The battle for the podium was the most fun I have had in poker in a while!”

Over the course of the GOPC series, a thrilling podium race was staged too. Across the month-plus of action, the Argentine player ‘agustinverna’ took down the title, amassing 117 points after winning ten gold medals across the series. He was congratulated online by second place podium finisher ‘LucidZach’.

“The GOPC was a fun series, and I am bittersweet to see it go. The battle for the podium was the most fun I have had in poker in a while! GGs to ‘agustinverna’ and ‘slowsven’ for the podium.”

Satellite qualifiers starred across the five weeks, with one player, ‘Ddango’, converting a $0.55 entry step satellite into an eventual runner-up position worth a staggering $14,114 payday in the Opening Ceremony event. That sort of result doesn’t happen every day, or on every platform, so CoinPoker can rightly boast that the series has made micro stakes players’ dreams come true.

Will ‘The One’ Be CoinPoker’s Biggest Event Yet?

The age of crypto poker may be now, but FIAT currency still remains overwhelmingly the preferred method for Americans and players from all over the world to play poker online. The next tournament could be the biggest one yet. ‘The One’ takes place on CoinPoker on October 4 and is their flagship annual event.

Costing $250 to play, the event not only has a huge $5 million guarantee, but it also guarantees that the event’s eventual winner will be awarded a minimum of $1,000,000. That million-dollar top prize for a $250 entry makes it the biggest tournament prize pool in the platform’s history.

With qualifiers heading into the action for as little as 20 cents on CoinPoker in satellite qualifiers this week on the site, Day 1 flights for The One will run three times daily from October 4 through 11. Two more turbo flights will take place just before Day 2 commences on October 12, and with the success of the GOPC in the background, The One may yet strengthen CoinPoker’s claims that crypto poker is the game of the future.
