The Celebrities are ready, the sports stars are limbered up and reality TV’s finest are ready for their close-ups. It can only mean the return of the Celebrity Poker Tour!

Can TV legend Chumlee from Pawn Stars, famed for stacking greenbacks on items such as pinball machines, sports memorabilia, sneakers, and video games make his opponents pay on Saturday night? Let’s find out.

Finding the Value

“We have had many good poker objects come into the shop.”

A star of The History Channel’s top-rated show Pawn Stars, Chumlee was once known on he show for being a jokey character, someone who was happy to look like the ‘village idiot’. In truth, however, the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas owed Chumlee a lot, and over many years before hitting TV and then on screen, he proved himself a shrewd operator. As he reveals to Tight Poker, plenty of poker-related treasures made it to the shop.

“We have had many good poker objects come into the shop from circa 1800, from second-hand books to full gambling set ups but the coolest things are the cheating devices because it could be life or death if you got caught using one in an old Western saloon.”

After Pawn Stars, Chumlee, who opened the Chumlee’s Candy on the Boulevard across the street of the pawn shop in May of 2017, became such a fan favorite that his friendly face proved a ‘money maker’ at the poker felt.

“Once people recognize me at the poker table they tend to want to get into hands with me,” Chumlee admits. “Depending on my image that it will sometimes pay off big but does become harder to bluff!”

Taking on the Celebrity Poker Tour Stars

“Completely forgetting how to play sound poker will help me get further in this tournament.”

The Celebrity Poker Tour moves fast once the cards are in the air, and Chumlee knows that to survive to the latter stages of the event, he’ll need to duck and dive just like he has done on our TV screens for many years.

“I plan to play any two cards in position this time around,” he says. “I think completely forgetting how to play sound poker will help me get further in this tournament. Hopefully the cards fall in place.”

You might think that someone so well-versed in antique collectibles would have an idea of what he’d spend the $20,000 top prize on if he wins on Saturday night. Well, you’d be right… kind of!

“I’d spend all $20,000 on bottle caps and my custom root beer. I would be on a year-long sugar rush!”

On August 30th, Chumlee knows that he’s going to have to run well and play even better to make it to the final table then get the win. If there’s one hand he enjoys playing though, it’s one made famous as being the British online and live crusher Toby Lewis’ nickname in the days of Full Tilt Poker.

“I like to play 10-8 suited from any position,” he says. “It flops good and can pay off when over repped pre flop.”
