Wynn Las Vegas is hosting a $10 million-guaranteed tournament this summer with a $10,000 buy-in! The first-ever “Wynn Millions” will run from June 25-July 2 as part of the Wynn Summer Classic.
The high-stakes tournament, alongside many other live poker events taking place in Vegas starting May, is expected to drive a significant number of poker players and fans into the city, despite the World Series of Poker (WSOP) live festival being moved to September.
Wynn, in particular, will become an alternative destination for those looking for big-guaranteed live poker tournaments throughout the summer months. Given the fact that the WSOP is not taking place this summer due to COVID-19, Wynn Millions should fill the void to some extent.
Below are the key details of the upcoming summer festival at the mega resort.
Wynn Millions Has $10M GTD
The new Wynn Millions will be the biggest-ever poker tournament ever hosted by Wynn. Announcing the tournament, Ryan Beauregard, executive director of poker operations at the casino resort, said their main goal is to make Wynn Millions a staple event in Las Vegas for years to come.
The $10K buy-in tournament features three starting flights, running from June 25-27. Each of the flight will have its own Day 2 taking place until June 29. The field will then combine on Day 3 on June 30, with play extending through July 2 until a winner is crowned.
Players will start with 40,000 in chips played to 60-minute levels before progressing to 90-minute levels. Players can re-enter once for each starting flight.
So far in the history of live poker in Vegas, only a few tournaments can match an event of such size – the WSOP events at the Rio, the Super High Roller Bowl at Aria, the World Poker Tour Five Diamond Poker Classic at Bellagio, and the DeepStack Championship at the Venetian.
Wynn is known for regularly hosting festivals that usually feature mid-stakes tournaments, so running such a massive event as Wynn Millions is a unique and brave move for the mega resort. In order to generate $10 million in prize pool, it needs to attract at least 1,000 players. That’s highly possible, given the ongoing clamor for high-stakes live poker action in Vegas.
Wynn Summer Classic
Wynn Millions will run as part of the Wynn Summer Classic, which includes over 30 events. The festival will take place from May 27-July 13, and features at least $16 million in combined guarantees.
The schedule includes five tournaments with seven-figure guarantees. A $1,100 buy-in, $1M GTD NLH tournament will take place on May 28, followed by another $1,600 buy-in, $1M GTD NLH event on June 17. The $10M GTD Wynn Millions gets underway on June 25, with a $1.5 million-guaranteed Mystery Bounty scheduled for July 2. It will then be followed by another $1M GTD NLH tournament on July 7.
Apart from the traditional NLH format, other formats and variants have also been thrown into the mix, including pot-limit Omaha, HORSE, Omaha 8 or better, as well as Ladies and Seniors tournaments.
DeepStack Championship Series at The Venetian
Apart from Wynn, The Venetian is also running its popular DeepStack Championship Series over the summer. The festival kicks off on May 3 and runs through August 1, featuring $15 million in guaranteed prize money. There will be a total of 121 tournaments to choose from, headlined by the $5,000 buy-in, $3M GTD WPT Venetian, the second WPT event of the year at the casino.
The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is also joining in on the action with a $2M GTD MSPT tournament.
Las Vegas Live Poker Scene Returning to Normal
The live poker scene in Las Vegas was severely impacted by the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020. But since December, major tournaments have slowly returned, though with restrictions. Now, new developments in connection with pandemic-related guidelines and vaccine rollouts could pave the way for a return to normalcy at the live felts over the next few months. The WSOP, which takes place this fall, is expected to run without restrictions, a positive news for the poker industry.
