The World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) 2011 will be held at the Casino Barriere de Cannes Croisette and Hotel Majestic Barriere at Cannes in France this year. This prestigious event will also have a new sponsor in BarierePoker.fr, replacing Betfair. In an official press release, which was issued on Wednesday, Dominique Desseigne, the CEO of Groupe Lucien Barriere, said that this arrangement strengthens the bond between offline and online poker and that Groupe Lucien Barriere is proud of being associated with WSOPE, the world’s most prestigious live poker event.
The world’s first Cannes WSOPE event will have seven qualifying centers in Toulose, Lille, Nice, Enghien, Dinard, Bordeaux, and Trouville. When the WSOPE finally reaches Cannes, the participants will be placed at 75 tables. The WSOPE will include seven bracelet events this year, instead of the usual five.
The above-mentioned press release also explains the change of the venue of WSOPE 2011 from London to Cannes. Reportedly, Caesars Interactive Entertainment has been hunting for opportunities to make a grand entry into the French market after having observed the rising number of French poker players at the WSOP tables of Las Vegas.
Recently, French players have captured the attention of the poker-loving community across the world by presenting stunning performances in the WSOP Main Event. French poker pro Antoine Saout won $3.4 million after finishing third in the WSOP 2009 cycle and Poker News Daily reported the event in all its details. The French poker media analyzed that Saouts colossal win will spark off an interest in poker among French players similar to the one set off in America 8 years ago by the success of US poker player Chris Moneymaker.
Other highly successful French poker players are David Beyamine, Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, Bruno Fitoussi, and others. The French version of PokerStars is the seventh largest poker site in the world, says PokerScout.com and adds that a rising number of French players are showing interest in ring games.
French players who would like to participate in WSOPE 2011 can qualify for the same at BarrierePoker.fr. A new website called WSOP.fr will be launched later in 2011. Jean-Etienne Bouedec, the deputy CEO of BarrierePoker.fr, said that this strategic alliance will equip the poker room operator to qualify as many French online poker players as possible for this prestigious event.
This year, the WSOP will be played at the Rio on the last day of May.
