Poker players from all over the world were eager to know whether the World Series of Poker (WSOP) live tournament will take place in Las Vegas this year. The WSOP confirmed that the 2021 WSOP will take place from September 30 to November 23 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
WSOP live events were dropped in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While an online series took place, it just couldn’t match the prestige of the live festival. Now, players all over the world are delighted that live action is returning, and that they can finally resume their quest for the most coveted prize in poker – a WSOP gold bracelet.
The Hunt for WSOP Gold Bracelets Continues
Winning a WSOP gold bracelet is considered one of the biggest accomplishments in the life of a poker player. While it isn’t really enough to measure your skills and abilities in the game, a WSOP victory attached to your name is a badge of honor that makes the journey more special and memorable.
Stephen Chidwick who is considered one of the best players in the world, went without a WSOP bracelet for many years. He never stopped chasing for a bracelet and his efforts finally paid off when he won one in 2019 in a $25K PLO High Roller tournament. Canadian star Daniel Dvoress also just captured his maiden gold bracelet by winning the 2020 WSOP Online Millionaire Maker Event.
Now, while everyone is preparing for the massive 2021 WSOP live festival in September, let’s check out which countries so far have recorded the most WSOP victories.
Australia – 30 Bracelets
Australia has made it to the Top 5 with a total of 30 bracelets. Jeff Lisandro has won the most number of gold bracelets in his home country with 6.
The Perth native had his first taste of WSOP victory back in 2007 when he won a $2,000 Seven-Card Stud tournament. His most successful year was in 2009 during which he won three bracelets.
Other prominent Australian pros who won bracelets are Kahle Burns (2), Michael Addamo (2), and 2019 WSOP Player of the Year Robert Campbell (2).
Germany – 41 Bracelets
Fourth on the list is Germany whose players have so far recorded a total of 41 bracelet wins, led by George Danzer who has 4. Danzer won his first three titles in 2014. His latest bracelet victory took place in 2016 in Las Vegas.
Fedor Holz and Dominik Nitsche, two of poker’s biggest names, have won two and three bracelets respectively.
England – 53 Bracelets
Benny Glaser leads the gold list in his home country of England with 3. He won his first bracelet in a Limit Triple Draw Lowball tournament in 2015, and then went on to capture two Omaha Hi-Low Spit-8 or Better titles in 2016.
Other well-known English pros with gold bracelets under their name are Barny Boatman (2), Liv Boeree (1), Chris Moorman (1), and as mentioned above, Chidwick (1).
English players has so far won a total of 53 bracelets.
Canada – 66 Bracelets
Canada has so far recorded 66 WSOP gold bracelets, putting it second on the list. No other Canadian pro has won more bracelets than Daniel Negrenau who has 6. Among his biggest WSOP victories took place in 2013 when he won the first-ever WSOP Asia Pacific Main Event. He is also the only player to win the WSOP Player of the Year award twice (2004 & 2013).
Other Canadian pros with WSOP gold bracelets are Kristen Bicknell (3), Jonathan Duhamel (3), Dvoress (1), and Timothy Adams (1).
USA – 1,170 Bracelets
USA is indeed the home of multiple bracelet holders, including Phil Hellmuth who leads the all-time gold list with 15. That record includes a $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship victory in 1989, three bracelets in 1993, and a WSOP Europe Main Event title in 2012.
Apart from Hellmuth, other legendary US poker pros who are excellent WSOP performers include Phil Ivey (10), Johnny Chan (10), Johnny Moss (9), and Doyle Brunson (9).
The USA is currently at the top of the list with a total of 1,170 bracelets.
