The World Poker Tour (WPT) has been around since 2001 and has built its WPT poker brand mostly around its live poker festivals. The WPT has grown with each passing year and in recent years has focused more on expanding its presence in international markets and building its live poker tour.

WPT Focuses On iGaming

Some of the other top live poker operators such as the World Series of Poker (WSOP) have focused on building their online poker offering. When COVID-19 hit and live poker tours in the United States and other parts of the world came to an abrupt halt, the WSOP was able to run online poker tournaments and continue to do business.
The WPT hasn’t had a lot of exposure to online poker and casino games because it focused heavily on its live poker offerings and not so much on its online gaming portfolio. It looks like the WPT is changing its strategy going forward which is evidenced by the new partnership with the Game Play Network (GPN).
The WPT took its time in searching and reviewing different iGaming content suppliers and then decided to narrow down on the GPN network due to its talented team, robust product offerings and its patented platform. This partnership will now help the WPT expand its online gaming portfolio and offer its players in the United States and other parts of the world access to a great selection of GPN real money games.

Strategic Partnership With GPN

The WPT was looking to expand its online gaming portfolio across the United States. GPN is currently offering its games in 22 different states and has the ability to scale that to 40 states across the country. This strategic partnership with GPN will allow the WPT to offer GPN games across the U.S going forward.
In a statement, Adam Pliska, CEO for the WPT said “In addition to our extensive live tournament and distribution network global footprint, our online platforms and products make up an ever-growing portion of our company’s portfolio. Considering our loyal fan base and strong demand for more online offerings, it was essential for us to align ourselves with online products our customers would readily embrace, while enhancing the WPT brand”.
Pliska went on to say “After extensive legal and business diligence, GPN clearly stood out in terms of its exceptionally talented team, strong product and unrivalled market access.  We are very enthusiastic about finalizing this partnership and its potential for industry changing impact.”
His views were shared by Sam Kiki who is the Chief Commercial Officer for GPN. Kiki said there are few poker brands in the world as popular and robust as the WPT. They were happy to be able to offer their real money gaming content to WPT players and are confident that this strategic partnership will take their overall content to a whole new level.

Game Play Network

Most WPT poker players will not be familiar with the GPN. Game Play Network is based out of Los Angeles and runs its own patented technology and software platform. The company is an advanced deposit betting company that offers wagering on horse betting as it is authorized to do so under the Federal Interstate Horseracing Act and state laws.
GPN was established in 2012 and runs its B2C operations through bspot.com. The company allows third party brands to provide real money casino games in states where iGaming is yet to get legal approval. Apart from horse race betting, GPN also provides casino games like video poker and slots.
