The WPT (World Poker Tour) has announced a new series of events in response to an increase in demand from players wanting to enter WPT events. These events, according to the WPT website, will be more accessible, and will offer a variety of affordable buy-ins. These newly added events will be marketed under the WPT Regional Series Events in the United States and as WPT National Series Events in Europe.
Although the winners of these events do not earn Player of the Year points, and would not qualify for WPT titles, the prestige alone is expected to make these events highly attended. Since these events do carry the support and prestige associated with playing in a WPT branded event, organizers believe that players will buy-in with the expectation that the tournaments will be conducted in the same fashion as the ‘official’ WPT events, and that the caliber of play will be quite similar. According to the WPT website, “WPT carefully chooses partners for Regional and National events, ensuring players a professional and high quality experience worthy of the WPT name.”
WPT anticipates that they will announce more branded Regional and National events throughout 2011, as more corporate sponsors, casinos, and event organizers sign on.
The first WPT Regional and National events are:
• WPT Regional Series: Florida – Seminole Hard Rock Fall Poker Open at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood Florida from November 19 – 22, 2010 with a $4,750+$250 buy-in
• WPT Regional Series: Indiana – Hollywood Fall Classic at Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana from November 20 -21, 2010 with a $1,500+$100 buy-in
• WPT National Series: Paris – EFOP Diamond Championship at Aviation Club de France in Paris, France from February 9 – 15, 2011 with a €5000 buy-in
