We’ve already mentioned that PartyPoker’s satellites to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) are underway, but Las Vegas is not the only travel destination available on the online poker room. PartyPoker is also offering a chance for players to win their way into both the Grand Prix de Poker in Paris, France and the Canadian Poker Open Championships in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Both events will take place in mid-May with qualifying satellites being held online next week. If you have earned 200 Party Points between April 22nd and April 28th, you can register to participate in a satellite tournament to the Paris event at 4AM ET on May 1st. The winner and runner-up of that satellite event will receive a buy-in to the €10,000 tournament, hotel accommodations, money for travel expenses and even a little extra spending money. Each package is worth approximately $15,500. The Grand Prix will take place at the historic Aviation Club de France in Paris from May 14th-17th.
In past years, the Grand Prix de Paris was a stop on the World Poker Tour. Former WPT champions at the stop include Roland de Wolfe, Surinder Sunar and David Benyamine. The WPT dropped the Paris stop from their tournament schedule in 2007, but it did not stop the big name pros for showing up to the play. Will Ma won the 2007 event, besting a final table that featured the likes of Jeffrey Lisandro and Ram Vaswani. Last year’s title was captured by Roger Harabedian while Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier finished in 5th.
Last year’s Canadian Poker Open boasted its fair share of known pros as well. NBC National Heads-Up Champion Huck Seed once again proved his prowess at heads-up events by taking the title and the first place prize of CAD $100,000. The top eight was populated with several other big names including former WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem, “Yukon” Brad Booth, Gavin Smith and Shawn Buchanan.
This year’s event will once again feature a heads-up format where the player who prevails in the best of three matches advances to the next round. The CAD $5,000 buy-in will also feature 10,000 chip starting stacks and 20 minute blinds. The tournament will take place from May 13th-17th at the Stampede Casino in downtown Calgary.
PartyPoker will be offering an opportunity to satellite into the event for as little as $4. Those fortunate enough to win an online qualifier will receive the buy-in, a four-night stay in Calgary’s Hotel Arts, $1,800 (US) in spending money and entry into the VIP welcome party for the event. Daily satellites will be running on PartyPoker from now until May 4th.
