Britain has some of the best professional poker players in the world, and here is a list of five top poker winners from the country.

Chris Moorman, who hails from Brighton, won a million dollars at a World Poker Tour (WPT) event held in Los Angeles. One of the best online poker pros in the world, Moorman has won more than $10 million in the course of his career, playing online poker alone. After winning the WPT event in Los Angeles, he collected a prize of $1,015,460.

But his million-dollar purse doesn’t make Moorman the biggest UK poker winner ever because it was British poker pro Sam Trickett who won $10.1 million at the WSOP’s Big One for One Drop, a $1 million buy-in charity poker tournament. Trickett also holds the fifth rank for winning the most money playing live poker tournaments in Europe. He plans to take part in the Big One for One Drop, which will be played as part of the WSOP 2014. Trickett also bears the credit of winning $2.1 million in the Aussie Millions 2013’s $250k Challenge, a high roller tournament. He had to play against and defeat three top German poker pros—Fabian Quoss, Tobias Reinkemeier, and Igor Kurganov.

Sam Trickett had also emerged as the champion of the Aussie Millions 2013’s $100k Challenge and won a prize of $1.5 million. He beat Tony Bloom, another British poker pro, in a heads-up match to win this pot. In 2011, Trickett had won more than $4.5 million, including $2.8 million playing poker games at Melbourne’s Crown Casino.

Matthew Ashton is yet another British poker pro who won million-dollar pots playing poker. He took part in the WSOP 2013 $50k Players’ Championship event and won a huge prize of $1.7 million. The $50k Players’ Championship, which was launched in honor of the late poker pro David Reese, seeks to honor the world’s top poker player.

Another British poker player worth mentioning is Liv Boeree, who won a major pot worth $1.7 million playing the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo Main Event. Boeree’s victory created headlines in the British poker world. A former fan of heavy metal and an astrophysics graduate, Boeree began appearing in British magazines and TV channels to promote poker globally. She then signed a sponsorship deal with the biggest online poker room in the world, PokerStars and is now one of the world’s most important poker personalities.
