The South Shore Poker Club, which was launched in May, is well on its way to become very successful because a number of prominent poker players are attracted to it. The club hosts weekend poker events, during which top poker pros win millions of dollars. Some of the top poker players who have played at this club are Dennis Phillips, who participated in the World Series of Poker 2008 No Limit Texas Hold’em Event, and Darvin Moore, who was the runner up of the World Series of Poker 2009 Main Event.
The poker room, which focuses on raising funds for charity, has been home to exciting charity poker events ever since its launch. T. J. Cloutier, who has been inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, organized a World Poker Tour (WPT) Boot Camp in its premises, during which professional players shared their poker experiences and knowledge. Ever since its launch, the poker club has raised more than $35,000 for worthy causes. Besides, it has donated generously to local bodies such as the Holbrook Police K-9 Unit and the Holbrook Food Pantry. The poker club can raise anywhere from $800 to $1,500 at a time during a charity poker event.
The founders of this charity poker club are Mark and his brother Anastasio. When Anastasio’s wife Kelly decided to raise funds for multiple sclerosis patients, following her own diagnosis with the disorder, Anastasio organized a fund-raising Texas Hold’em event to assist her at DAV Braintree Chapter #29. Later, Anastasio organized many more poker events for charity, and when the facilities at DAV became too small for large charity poker events, he decided to start his own poker club.
The South Shore Poker Club is home to a wide range of poker games and tournaments, cash games, Sit ‘N’ Go’s, and others. Any charitable organization can sponsor charity poker events at the club, but they should meet certain requirements and should have been launched at least 2 years back. The founders of the poker club take special pains to ensure that each event has a number of participants by advertising the event well, providing relevant information at their website, soliciting players, fixing police details, and booking caterers.
Since the poker club offers a number of flat screen televisions, players can watch their favorite sports events while enjoying a game of poker. The club takes a portion of the proceedings and charges fees.
