The Seminole Hard Rock posted a tweet on Oct 2, stating that it will host the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown 2014 in April and that the NL Hold’em Main Event will have a buy-in of $5,300 and a guaranteed prize of $10 million. Although Matt Savage, the executive tour director of the World Poker Tour (WPT), retweeted the post, the WPT did not make any formal announcement.
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, which was held in August, was a roaring success. It had a buy-in of $5,300 and gave away a guaranteed prize of $10 million. Everybody expected the event to be held in April 2014 to be of the same type.
However, PokerNews got a press statement, which said that the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown will have a guaranteed prize of $5 million only, but the buy-in will be reduced to $3,500. This statement surprisingly does not appear either on the poker blog or the press page of the Seminole Hard Rock.
PokerNews contacted Ray Stefanelli, the poker marketing director for Seminole Gaming, who confirmed the above press release. He said: “Seminole Hard Rock Poker continues to strive to offer outstanding experiences for our tournament players. While the August Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open championship event was extremely successful at a $5,300 buy-in, we wanted to provide a more accessible price-point in April and expose more customers to both the WPT and Seminole Hard Rock poker brands and the televised championship event. The $5 million guarantee is largest guarantee for a $3500 buy-in and provides outstanding value to the tournament players.”
Seminole Gaming COO Larry Mullin said that their recent Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, which was held in August, had attracted a field of players from home and abroad. International, local, national, and regional players had gathered at the venue to participate in this historic live poker tournament and enjoy the “world renowned resort amenities and first-class poker operations” of the Seminole Hard Rock. He further said that the Seminole Hard Rock is happy about players’ positive response to the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open and is very happy to offer the $3,500 buy-in poker tournament for the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown.
The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown is scheduled to be held at the Seminole Hard Rock from March 27 to April 16, 2014. The event will be shown on television. A complete schedule will be released later.
