Revel Casino recently issued a media release, in which it stated: “After careful consideration and in an effort to further improve the overall operating performance of Revel Casino Hotel, management has made the decision to close our poker room operations effective August 2013.”

Revel Casino has experienced a number of difficulties ever since its launch in April 2012. In a bid to attract more gamblers, it worked out a number of initiatives, including that of offering cash back on slots losses. Considering the fact that the casino recently launched a marketing initiative called “Gamblers Wanted,” it desperately needs more gamblers. But it is sure to lose its poker customer base because of its decision to shut down its poker room.

Revel Casino, which has just won its fight against bankruptcy, had launched its live poker room a year back. Its intentions were to compete with Borgata, which has a thriving poker room. Revel Casino’s live poker room, which was located close to the Ovation Hall, its musical concert venue, and just above its chief casino gambling hall, was designed especially to attract casino players as they left the casino gambling hall.

Revel Casino’s poker room was unable to top the list of casinos offering poker gaming facilities in terms of poker revenue generated in spite of the fact that it was the fourth biggest live poker room in Atlantic City. In fact, it ranked second from the bottom in terms of poker revenue this June. Revel Casino, which had a total of 37 poker tables, generated $90,888 while Borgata, which has 80 poker tables, generated $1.8 million.

Revel has announced that it is not bidding good-bye to poker forever, but might re-open its poker room in the near future once New Jersey’s brand new regulated online gambling industry begins to get stronger. The Revel statement said: “Offering poker as an amenity on the property will be considered in the future as a component of an overall strategy related to our online opportunities. We have a very talented team of professionals who work in poker operations and we are actively working to place as many as we can in other areas.” The casino, however, has not revealed the name of its online poker partner.
