The World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) is currently running on PokerStars and creating a lot of new records. PokerStars announced that the 2021 WCOOP has already paid out more than $73 million in prize money and there is more to come with a week of action still in the pipeline.
2021 WCOOP – Huge Success
PokerStars which is the biggest online poker operator in the world put together a massive 2021 WCOOP that featured over 300 games. So far over 200 games have taken place and combined these 200 games had a whopping $60 million in guaranteed prize money. The 2021 WCOOP received a strong response from the international poker community and as a result that $60 million guaranteed combined prize pool across these 200 events was surpassed.
We take a look at some of the stats that the 2021 WCOOP has registered so far. Do note these numbers will change once the WCOOP concludes. As of this writing, 204 tournaments have been completed at the 2021 WCOOP which promised a combined guaranteed prize pool of $58,855,000.
The total combined guaranteed prize pool generated across these 204 tournaments amounted to $72,847,378.55, which meant that the guaranteed amount was surpassed by over 23 percent. The average number of entries for each tournament stood at 4,180 while the average guaranteed prize pool was at $357,095.
The total number of player registrations across these 204 tournaments not counting re-entries and add-ons stood at 852,794. While the overall numbers are good, there were a total of 30 tournaments that had overlays which resulted in a combined overlay of $493,068.
2021 WCOOP – Should Exceed $120 Million
While those numbers are definitely impressive, things are expected to get a lot bigger as the last week of the 2021 WCOOP has a number of massive events with big guarantees. The total guaranteed prize money across the remaining events stands at $41,270,000. PokerStars expects the combined guaranteed prize pool for the full tournament to surpass $120 million and possibly reach $130 million.
If PokerStars does go on to surpass the $123 million total guaranteed prize money, it will make the 2021 WCOOP the biggest WCOOP in the history of the tournament. It would also create the third biggest online poker series in PokerStars history.
The third place for the biggest tournament in PokerStars history is currently held by the 2019 SCOOP which registered $105 million. Give what the 2021 WCOOP has already accomplished, it looks like the third place is already a given. However, the 2021 WCOOP will still struggle to get to second place which is held by the 2021 SCOOP which reached $137 million.
The first place for the biggest poker tournament in PokerStars history is still held by the 2020 SCOOP which brought in a record $185 million.
2021 WCOOP – Main Event
The highlight of the 2021 WCOOP is the Main Event which comes with a $10 million guaranteed prize pool. The Main Event will take place on Sep 12 and the 2021 WCOOP will come to a close on Sep 15. There are a number of exciting events apart from the Main Event which is yet to take place.
Poker players from all over the world have enjoyed the WCOOP and PokerStars will be pleased with the overall results. While GGPoker and Partypoker continue to make waves in the online poker market, PokerStars still holds a dominant position in global poker thanks to major poker tournaments like WCOOP and SCOOP.
PokerStars is currently running simultaneous editions of its PACOOP, MICOOP, and NJCOOP from Sep 10 to 27. To find out more information, check out the PokerStars website.
