PokerStars to Hold Biggest Buy-in Tournament in Online Poker History

PokerStars.com, an online poker brand belonging to Amaya, will hold an online poker tournament with the biggest buy-in ever in online poker history as part of its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) on September 20. The Super High Roller NL Hold’em event will have a buy-in of $51,000 and a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million.
Previously, the $25k Heads-up Tournament of the World Championship of 2008 to 2010 and the $25k Spring Championship of Online Poker of 2009 to 2011 were known as the online poker tournaments with the biggest buy-ins. In addition, several online poker tournaments have been held with buy-ins of $10k.

The WCOOP is the most prestigious online poker tournament series in the world. This year, the 14th World Championship, which began in 2002 as an event with a $730k prize pool and grew into an event with a prize pool of $61,934,886 in 2014, will be held. It will attract top poker pros from different parts of the world.
Daniel Negreanu, a member of Team PokerStars Pro, who was recently announced to be the Player of the Decade by the Global Poker Index (GPI), said: “Over the last few years, we have seen the emergence of Super High Roller events at live events across the globe. I think it only makes sense that the world’s largest poker site is also the host of the largest buy-in online poker tournament ever. Jason Mercier, another member of Team PokerStars Pro and winner of two WCOOP championship titles, four SCOOP titles, and three WSOP titles, shares Negreanu’s excitement. The event will be held on September 20 at 12:30 US ET, 18:30 Central European Summer Time, and 17:30 British Summer Time in the 8-Max and NL Hold’em formats at pokerstars.com, pokerstars.eu, pokerstars.be, pokerstars.ee, pokerstars.dk, pokerstars.sh, pokerstars.bg, and pokerstars.uk.
It will be played one week before the main event of the WCOOP, a $5,200 buy-in and $10 million guaranteed event that will be played on September 27, Sunday.
