When poker pro Dale Philip, who plays under the moniker “Daleroxxu,” tweeted, “Just been dropped from PokerStars for the goal celebration against Spain. Not the best news before an 11 hour flight,” his Twitter followers thought it was a joke as Philip has a rare sense of humor.

Dale Phillip is a widely read poker blogger, considered to be one of the best in the industry. He has also been nominated for the best blogger category of British Poker Awards several times. He also took up a personal challenge called “Tour of Cards,” in which he visited 52 countries in 52 weeks, playing poker and blogging throughout. He also won the main event of PokerStars’ World Blogger Championship of Online Poker (WBCOOP). Poker players, therefore, initially couldn’t believe that PokerStars had indeed dropped him.

However, Philip and PokerStars have definitely parted ways. Philip was way too happy when the Dutch defeated the Spaniards last week and celebrated Spain’s defeat a bit too much. When he was celebrating, he was taking part at the PokerStars UKIPT at Marbella in Spain and he must have upset local poker players. There was no need for him to celebrate as he is not Dutch, but Scottish. So, any win by the Dutch need not have mattered so much to him. Since he was in Spain as a PokerStars representative, the online poker operator could not tolerate his behavior. Since this is the World Cup and the Spanish team is so used to winning that losing this time was a rude shock to them, PokerStars’ decision to part ways with Philip is quite understandable.

The match was followed by a Twitter battle between Alex Hernando, the Spanish professional poker player, and Philip. Having realized that he had gone too far, Philip later said, “Insulting me and threatening me on Twitter when you are 10 meters away from me is ridiculous. Just a game, cheer up and let’s be friends.” Hernando, however, was furious. He responded, “Maybe you should think about the patch u were wearing. I’m 200 percent sure that PS would not stand your ‘celebration moves.’”

The poker community in general and UK poker players in particular feel that PokerStars has dealt too harshly with Philip. Chucking him out was too harsh a punishment, they feel. One of them said, “Unless you did a Nazi salute or genuinely tried to start a fight, I think you got shafted there man.”
