PokerStars has brought on Rafael Moraes and Partypoker has signed Yuri Martins Dzivielevski as their latest brand ambassadors as they look to make a bigger impact in LATAM.
When you talk about the countries that have the best online poker players in the world, most poker fans would list countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and maybe Russia.
Brazilian Players Dominate
Very few poker fans would name Brazil as a top destination for online poker players but given the recent stats at the GG WSOP Online Bracelet series, you now have to include Brazil in that conversation.
Players from all over the world took part in the GG WSOP Online Bracelet series but the series was dominated by Brazilian poker players. To give you an idea of Brazil’s dominance, we take a look at some of the numbers based on 27 out of the 33 events completed. Brazil has won 6 gold bracelets while Poland sits in second place with 3 gold bracelets.
When you look at the top three finishes across all events, Brazil sits in first place with a total of 11 wins while Russia is in second place with a total of 5 wins. Two out of the nine players at the WSOP Online Main Event are Brazilians.
Brazilian poker players have been doing very well at online poker for quite some time now. The top two players leading the global rankings on Pocket Fives are Brazilians while eight out of the top twenty players on the list are Brazilians.
Rafael Moraes Signs with PokerStars
PokerStars announced on Sep 1 that they had signed top Brazilian poker player Rafael Moraes who has a reputation for playing high-stakes poker. Moraes has done well for himself playing both live poker and online poker. He has over $1.6 million in live poker earnings and sits in 6th place in Brazil’s all-time money list.
Most of his success has come from playing online poker though, as Moraes has accumulated over $6.1 million in online poker winnings. One day after PokerStars announced Moraes as their latest brand ambassador, his spouse Laurie “LaliTournier” Tournier went on to win the WCOOP 47-M: $109 NLHE [Heads-Up] event and take home her first WCOOP title.
PokerStars has hired different brand ambassadors over the years to try and make a bigger impact in the Latin American (LATAM) market. Some of these ambassadors included football stars Ronaldo Nazario (Brazil) and Argentinean Neymar. Jr. PokerStars is will now look to make a bigger push in LATAM with Moraes playing a big part in those plans.
Partypoker adds Yuri Martins Dzivielevski
Partypoker is also looking to make a bigger impact in LATAM and has added a new face to its list of brand Brazilian ambassadors. The latest signing is Yuri Martins Dzivielevski who joins Day Kotoviezy and Joao Simao.
Dzivielevski has over $14 million in career prize money and sits at the top of the global rankings list on Pocket Fives. He has had an impressive poker career so far, having won two WSOP bracelets and five World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) titles.
Dzivielevski said his dream for over 10 years was to be sponsored by a top online poker operator. He said he was delighted to join partypoker and represent the brand as he is good friends with both Simao and Kotoviezy.
New Strategy For LATAM
Based on these two new brand ambassador signings by PokerStars and Partypoker, it looks like both poker operators might be adopting a new marketing strategy to use online poker stars to promote their brand in LATAM.
