The first ever annual Texas Hold’em poker tournament Raise Your Hand for Africa has been scheduled to be held at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on February 18th and 19, 2011, would see the Poker, football and entertainment stars from the Hollywood and music industry join hands in favor of the hearing impaired populace of Africa. The funds raised from the event will be utilized for the welfare of African people who are deprived of the basic necessities of life and suffering from hearing defects. This effort has been spearheaded by Starkey Hearing Foundation and PROS FOR AFRICA, two charity organizations.
In a release, Bill Austin, the Chief Executive Officer of Starkey Laboratories and Founder of the Starkey Hearing Foundation, stated “The Starkey Hearing Foundation’s mission is to bring the gift of hearing to those in need. Our goal is to raise awareness and the necessary funds to help the world’s hearing impaired, and we thank the football and entertainment communities as well as our event partners for staging this great tournament and rallying their fans to support our upcoming mission to Africa.”
The exclusive event would be anchored by Poker Legend Phil Hellmuth Jr. together with World Poker Entertainment and would be co-hosted by Larry Fitzgerald Jr. of the Arizona Cardinals and Adrian Peterson of Minnesota Vikings. Some of the most renowned poker player celebrities that can be expected to attend include Annie Duke, Liz Lieu and Michelle Lau.
Visitors can also expect to see actors Don Cheadle, Steve Martin, Verne Troyer, Kevin Sorbo, Lou Ferrigno and Kenny Johnson and musicians Gabe Saporta, Jordin Sparks and Sam Moore present at the event. Football players Bernard Berrian, Visanthe Shiancoe and Bryant McKinnie of Minnesota Vikings, Chris Canty of New York Giants, Larry Johnson of Washington Redskins, Curtis Lofton of Atlanta Falcons, Mark Clayton of St. Louis Rams and Roy Williams of Cincinnati Bengals would also be participating.
In addition to being offered a seat at the table to the main event, the participation fee of $2,000 would provide guests with two spectator passes for the two day event along with two passes each for VIP reception organized on February 18th and the post-tournament party to be held on February 19th. Heartland Poker Tour would also produce a special episode for showcasing the humanitarian significance of the event which would include roving camera crews, on-air commentators Fred Bevill and Chris Hanson and HPT’s final table set.
