Professional poker players are usually very clear about the major poker tournaments they expect to attend each year and schedule their travel plans accordingly. Most poker players like to start the year by heading off to the Bahamas and taking part in the popular PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) which takes place in early January each year.
2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure
Players were not very happy in Jan 2017 as PokerStars had decided to replace the PCA with a new PokerStars Championship Bahamas. The new tournament wasn’t well received as there were too many changes which included increasing the number of events from 30 to 98 and reducing the $10,300 Main Event with a new $5,300 Main Event.
PokerStars received a lot of player feedback letting them know that they preferred the PCA to the PokerStars Championship Bahamas and as a result, the company announced in August that it would scrap the PokerStars Championship Bahamas and reintroduce the PCA from 2018. PokerStars also announced that it would taken into consideration player feedback and change up the format for the 2018 PCA to make it like previous editions and give players the experience they were used to having. The 2018 PCA will run from Jan 6 to Jan 14 and will once again take place at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort.
Road To The Bahamas
Just about every poker player in the world would love to start their year relaxing in the Bahamas, enjoying their holidays and having a crack at winning huge sums of money at the 2018 PCA. However not everyone can afford the trip to the Bahamas or the buy-ins required for the 30 events at the 2018 PCA.
The good news is that these players will now have multiple ways of qualifying for the 2018 PCA as PokerStars has released its ‘Road to the Bahamas’ plan to enable as many poker players as possible to qualify and win a package to the Bahamas. PokerStars expects atleast 400 players to qualify via its satellite events as there are multiple PCA packages which give players more than $3,000 in hotel room accommodation at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort plus an additional $1,000 in credits to spend at the Atlantic, a seat to the $10,300 Main Event and an additional $1,000 deposited in their PokerStars account.
There are multiple ways for players to win a PCA package and we look at all of them below.
$55 MTT Satellite Events
PokerStars will be running its popular Multi-Table Tournament (MTT) satellites which have a buy-in fixed at $55. Poker players who have a bigger bankroll will be interested in the two special $530 Ultra Satellites that will be held on October 15 and November 5. These Ultra Satellites will have up to 100 PCA full packages waiting to be won.
Spin & Go Qualifiers:
The Spin & Go Qualifiers for the 2018 PCA started on September 25 and will run till November 5. There entry fee is $27.50 and players will have the opportunity to win satellite tickets to the PCA as well as a PCA package. The breakdown will be as follows: 250 in 1,000,000 — $15,855 PCA Package; 181,625 in 1,000,000 — $109 satellite ticket; 18,510 in 1,000,000 — $530 Ultra Satellite ticket and 799,615 in 1,000,000 — $55 satellite ticket.

The winner of the shootout gets a seat at the Cash Game Weekly Final which takes place on Sundays and gets the opportunity to win a PCA package.
