California, Poker, and Hollywood Celebrities; when these three are in a mix together then there is a guarantee that you will be entertained, and that is what’s happening right now when it comes to the recent lawsuit filed against Nick Cassavetes.

According to a recent news report, Brad Ruderman lost a lot of money  to Nick Cassavetes  and Tobey McGuire in a serious game of Texas Hold’em Poker. Ruderman was playing with Mcguire and Cassavetes and a few other Hollywood celebrities when a situation arose; Ruderman has filed a lawsuit against Cassavetes as the reason for his bankruptcy.

According to the laws in California, any game that does not work out as a banking or percentage game is legal. For example, since Blackjack is played against the house, it is illegal. Hence, games like rouge et noir, roulette, hokey-pokey, blackjack, rondo, 21, tan, 7 1/2, fan-tan and lansquenet are illegal. In Texas Hold’em Poker, since players are playing against each other it can never be a house advantage and hence it is not illegal.

Based on these facts, Cassavetes has now filed a motion against the lawsuit that indicates that he owes money to Ruderman. Chances are that Cassavetes will win the lawsuit and get all his money back; but there is a glitch in the story since the Californian officials have not mentioned anything regarding the house considering a piece of the action, and the operator taking the income generated from the game, i.e., the tips for hosting. Other players in this game included Ben Affleck and Leonardo DiCaprio.

It also looks like a case of someone trying to rip off the celebrities as people always do, but if that is the case then Brad should have done his homework regarding the state laws regarding which games are legal or illegal in the place he is playing poker in. After the recent change in the status of poker, there should not be a confusion regarding the same, since Black Friday has managed to demarcate the sites wherein online poker or poker is legal or illegall.

Things might change in the near future, but nothing can be said for certain and players might have to just live with the fact that online poker was once a very significant part of their life.
