The Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) industry has caused quite a controversy in the country over the past few months as a number of states such as New York, Illinois and Nevada have taken the legal route to stop DFS operators such as FanDuel and DraftKings from operating their websites on the basis that DFS games come under the category of gambling and hence must operate with a gambling license.
None of this is stop ace poker player Phil Ivey from launching his own DFS project called PhilIveyDFS and will look to capitalize on the DFS market. Ivey’s company has confirmed that the website will launch on the iTEAM Network platform and is expected to go live before the end of February.
Phil Ivey built a reputation for himself in the poker industry and is known as one of the best poker players in the history of the game and is rated fifth on the Hendon Mob’s all time list of top money earners having won close to $24 million in career prize money. Ivey has not limited himself to the poker circuit and has launched a number of business ventures in the recent past including a very lucrative poker website called Ivey Poker where poker training was provided to clients from all over the world.
The DFS industry continues to grow exponentially in the U.S and is witnessing a significant number of poker players switching over to DFS games. Poker pro Aaron “aejones” Jones recently won the biggest prize in DFS history and stirred an even great interest in the poker community and it looks like Phil Ivey wants to leverage this interest in a smart business move.
Ivey stated that he had contemplated doing something revolving around the DFS industry for a few years and had quite a few companies willing to partner with him to launch his DFS website. However Ivey decided to go with the iTEAM Network due to their reputation of having a robust software and strong compliance ratings.
In a statement, Gabe Hunterton CEO of iTeam Network said “Adding the Phil Ivey brand will substantially increase network-wide player liquidity and prize pools. We have already started an aggressive marketing and execution plan in which PhilIveyDFS users will be able to compete immediately for more than $20,000 in weekly pro basketball contests and interact directly with Ivey.”
