Announcing the above on Two Plus Two Forums, Lee Jones posted: “All the cool kids are playing it. It’s sufficiently popular that we’re going to have a seminar about it and a tournament ($2K+$150 buy-in) at the PCA.”

Jones, however, did not give any details about the seminar. He did not mention the name of the resource person and the date on which the seminar would be held. The event is scheduled to be held on Jan 7, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.

Admitting that he had not expected PokerStars to introduce Open Face Chinese Poker in its games portfolio, Jones said, “But then again, I never thought we’d offer Badugi.”

The only common denominator of Open Face Chinese Poker and other online poker variants is the way the poker hands are ranked. A group of two to four players can play this game, with the dealer button rotating during the game. Each player is dealt a hand of 13 cards, which the player must then use to create two five-card hands and one three-card hand.

In case of Chinese Poker, players are required to arrange their hands in the following order—the three-card hand in front, the weaker 5-card hand in the middle, and the stronger five-card hand at the back. Open Face Chinese Poker challenges players to create their hands without seeing all the 13 cards dealt to them immediately.

Initially, players will receive a hand of 5 cards each. They can then arrange these cards as they wish for the three hands they are expected to create in the course of the game. Once this has been completed, players will receive a card at a time, which they must place in position till they create all the three hands required. If a player misses the ranking order, he/she loses his/her bet. As soon as players complete their hands, they will receive their prizes according to the strength of the hands created. The game also offers special bonuses for specific hands.

PCA is one of the most significant events in PokerStars’ annual live poker tournament schedule. The tenth edition of the PCA will be held from Jan 5 to Jan 14, 2013 on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, at Atlantis Resort and Casino.
