There may eventually prove to be many good things about PartyPoker‘s purchase of the World Poker Tour (WPT), but right now, it is pretty obvious that one of them is the multitude of opportunities that Party customers will have to win seats in WPT events.  The latest promotion gives players a full month to play in the WPT Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles at a major discount.
Through August 1st, PartyPoker will be running qualifiers and satellites using the same sort of structure that it normally uses for land-based event promotions.  Players who don’t want to spend a single, solitary penny on their way to the Legends of Poker can start at the WPT Legends of Poker Freeroll, which will be held daily.  The top 50 finishers advance to the WPT Legends of Poker Sub Qualifier Speed Rebuy.
That Sub Qualifer Speed Rebuy is one of two tournaments in the second round of qualifiers.  This one features a $1 buy-in for those who would rather just buy-in directly and, as is evident by its name, is a rebuy event.  For every $46 in the prize pool, on entry into the next step in the ladder will be awarded.  Players can also buy-in directly to a sibling tournament in this second round, the WPT Legends of Poker Speed tournament (no re-buys).  This one costs $5 and will award one seat to the next tournament for every 10 players who register.
The next to last step in the qualifying process is the WPT Legends of Poker Satellite Qualifier, which will be populated by those who made it from those two Sub Qualifiers and players who choose to pony up the $43 + $3 buy-in.  This event will be held daily at 1:45pm ET and will give a seat to the final satellite to 1 in 10 players.  The Sunday version of this tournament will be in turbo format.
And finally, the big daddy, the WPT Legends of Poker Satellite, which can be entered directly for $400 + $30.  It will be held each Sunday through the promotional period at 3:20pm ET.  One prize package will be handed out for every 20 players, with one prize package guaranteed.
The WPT Legends of Poker prize package includes the $5,200 event buy-in, $2,000 spending money, and seven nights’ luxury hotel accommodation in Los Angeles.  Of course, anyone who makes the final table will have their hotel stay extended by PartyPoker.
This year’s WPT Legends of Poker will be held from August 20th through August 25th at the renowned Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, also affectionately referred to as “The Bike.”  There are two Day 1’s scheduled, with Day 2 starting on August 22nd.  The final table will be taped for broadcast on Fox Sports Net.  There are also 25 other preliminary events starting on July 28th.  Buy-ins to these events range from $200 + $25 to $1,000 + $70 and feature several different games including No-Limit and Fixed-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit and Fixed-Limit Omaha/8, HORSE and other mixed games, Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo, and even Badugi.
Last year’s WPT Legends of Poker was contested by 279 players, but it had the classic $10,000 buy-in, so one might expect more players to attend this year.  Prahlad Friedman bested 2009 World Series of Poker November Nine member Kevin Schaffel heads-up to win the title and just over $1 million in prize money.  As is always the case with WPT events, Friedman also won his $25,000 seat in the WPT Championship, which is held at the end of every WPT at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
