The live poker scene in the United States is slowly returning to normal but the same cannot be said of Canada’s live poker scene. Canada continues to struggle with the COVID-19 epidemic and this is the one of the main reasons why the popular World Cup of Cards poker tournament was cancelled.
The World Cup of Cards tournament takes place each year at the Playground Poker Club (PPC) in Montreal, Canada. This live poker tournament gets a lot of attention from Canadian poker players as well as poker players in America who are happy to cross the border to get in on some great poker action.
World Cup of Cards – Online Edition
The tournament organizers decided that it was not safe to proceed with the live poker tournament at the PPC this year and instead opted to take the World Cup of Cards (WCC) online. Partypoker which is the second biggest online poker room in the world is now playing host to the WCC. The online edition of the WCC commenced on June 16 and is slated to run till July 8.
There have not been a lot of promotions running for the WCC online edition and partypoker currently has just a small schedule of the WCC displayed on its lobby. The full schedule of events is expected to be released in a few days on the partypoker website. The tournament started with the Grand Prix Knockout which had a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool and a buy-in of just $55.
World Cup of Cards – Open To All
The WCC in the past tended to attract mostly Canadian and U.S. poker players. However, with the WCC going online on partypoker, the tournament is now open to partypoker players from all over the world. Both partypoker and the WCC have taken this into consideration to schedule events at different times in order to cater to players living in different time zones.
The WCC has also put together a blend of events that features low stakes, medium and high stakes events to enable players with different bankrolls to get in on the action. To give you an example, you have a low-buy in event with the Mini Grand Prix Knockout that gives players a crack at a $50,000 guaranteed prize pool for a buy-in of just $5.50.
The most expensive and popular event at the WCC online edition is the Main Event.
World Cup of Cards – Main Event
The Main Event comes with a $1,100 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. Partypoker has scheduled the final table of the Main Event to take place on July 8 as it did not want the event to clash with the finals of Euro 2020 as a lot of partypoker players are huge football fans.
While a lot of partypoker players will want to play in the Main Event, the $1,100 buy-in could be a bit too much for them right now. This is why a special mini Main Event has also been scheduled. The mini Main Event comes with a buy-in of $109 and a minimum guaranteed prize pool of $200,000.
Players who have a limited bankroll but are still keen on taking part in the Main Event should take a look at the numerous satellite events that partypoker is running. There are as many as 20 Main Event seats being given away through these satellite promotions every week. The other option for you to buy-in to the main event is to check out poker staking sites and see if you can find someone who is willing to stake you for the Main Event.
Partypoker is also giving their players the option to use tournament dollars to buy-in to any of the WCC online events. If you would like to find out more information about the satellite events or using tournament dollars to buy-in, do check out the partypoker website.
