The partypoker MILLIONS Online event stunned the entire industry in 2018 after coming out with an enormous $20 million guarantee, making it the largest online poker tournament in history.
This year, the massive event is set to once again feature the same record-breaking prize pool, running from November 24 to December 4, 2019. Online poker players will once again have a chance of winning huge sums of cash before the end of this year.
Before we get totally pumped up for this latest development, let’s take a quick look at the history of the MILLIONS Online event and how it became the world’s biggest online poker tournament.
Millions Online Launched In 2017
It was in December 2017 when partypoker hosted the inaugural MILLIONS Online event with a buy-in of $5,300. A total of 1,027 players took part in the event, creating a huge prize pool of $5,135,000, with a total of 104 players each taking home a slice of the pie.
Two players battled heads-up at the final table, and Jon “sordykrd” Van Fleet was crowned the winner, walking away with $1,027,000. He beat “N0-|PTRI4|2I” who took home $651,118 as a consolation prize.
Record-Breaking 2018
After that, partypoker ran an extensive marketing campaign and put together a jam-packed satellite schedule for what would become the richest online poker tournament in history. In 2018, partypoker ended the year with a bang after awarding a total of $21.8 million to the winners of the MILLIONS Online event, which attracted 4,367 entries.
The tournament culminated in a heads-up chop between Pim “ForMatherRussia” de Goede, who won second place for $2,309,994 and Manuel “Sheparentao” Ruivo who topped the event and took home a whopping $2,329,943.
Two other partypoker players also became instant millionaires during that time: “Scarmak3r” who took the third spot and received $1,364,687 in winnings and Pedro “Maddonaa” Marques who won $1,091,750 for his fourth-place victory.
MILLIONS Online 2018 ($21.8 Million) surpassed PokerStars’ 2011 Sunday Million 10th Anniversary ($12.4 Million) to set a new record as the world’s biggest online poker tournament. partypoker sent out a strong statement with this online tournament and erased all doubts that it could overtake the world’s leading poker brand when it comes to holding massive online poker tournaments.
Partypoker’s rival PokerStars dominated the online poker tournament scene for years, with its Sunday Million tournaments which offer huge prize pools, the largest being in 2011 when it celebrated its 10th anniversary. The event generated $12,423,200 in total prize money, attracting 62,116 players for a buy-in of $215.
2019 partypoker Millions Online
This year, the best online poker pros will once again battle it out for a massive $20 million guarantee as partypoker plans to put together a similar online tournament like it created in 2018.
While details are still vague at the moment, a few clues are on display at partypoker’s website. From the information displayed, we can tell that the buy-in for the 2019 MILLIONS Online event could be increased to $10,300. This will not come as a major surprise as the live editions of this year’s MILLIONS Main Events had buy-ins of $10,000.
Partypoker has also published articles on its new loyalty program and information on the Diamond Club Elite  which is the highest level give us yet another clue of the potential buy-in. The articles go on to state that some of the benefits that Diamond Club Elite members will receive include a $10,300 buy-in to MILLIONS Online and a $16,000 Caribbean Poker Party VIP package.
The first player to enjoy the benefits is Russian player “sp0ubledy”, who made the required $200,000 in rake in just two months. The Russian online poker player will definitely want to take full advantage of his VIP package and win big at this year’s MILLIONS Online event.
While we await for more details to be released about the 2019 MILLIONS Online event, we can assume that it will not follow the same format as the previous two editions. The 2019 MILLIONS Online tournament will serve as a headline event in a yet-to-be named online poker festival, which will feature a wide range of buy-ins, with massive guarantees up for grabs. Partypoker is expected to release more information in the coming months.
