Poker is considered by many to be a test of mental strength, so it kind of makes sense that online poker room Party Poker is pairing up with a formidable test of physical strength, the popular World’s Strongest Man competition. Party Poker is sponsoring the athletic competition, which will take place on the Mediterranean isle of Malta from September 26th through October 3rd.
The first three days of the competition will consist of qualifiers in a series of individual events including the Truck Pull, Keg Toss, Car Carry, Dumbbell Press and Atlas Stones competitions. The series of final events will take place from October 1st through October 3rd. The reigning World Champion is Mariusz Pudzianowski of Poland who not only won in 2008, but took down the title of World’s Strongest Man in 2007 as well and has won the title a grand total of five times. Pudzianowski retired from the strong man competition after his most recent win to focus on his budding career as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter.
Those curious to see who will succeed Pudzianowski as the World’s Strongest Man can win their chance to see the events in person by playing on Party Poker. The site will be offering a total of 16 packages valued at €1,600 that will include a trip to Malta to see all of the World’s Strongest Man events, airfare and hotel accommodations, a wine tasting cruise around the island and entry into a €100 buy-in poker tournament at the Casino de Venezia on Malta.
Party Poker will be running two tournaments on Sunday September 20th to give out the prize packages. Each online tournament will begin at 3PM ET and feature a buy-in of 20 PartyPoints. The top eight finishers in each of the events will be rewarded with one of the World’s Strongest Man Prize packages. The tournaments are limited to users who reside in the UK, Russia, Denmark, Poland, Finland or Sweden. Players who win one of the 16 Malta trips cannot transfer the prize to anyone else nor can they redeem the package for cash.
Party Poker customers earn PartyPoints every time they time play in at the real money cash tables or buy-in to a multi table tournament or Sit & Go. Users earn one point for every $.50 they spend in tournament fees and accrue points at the cash tables on a prorated scale depending on what blind level they are playing.
