The Party Poker World Open V is just around the corner and those who can’t wait for the event to start can pass the time looking over the newly-released odds on all the contestants at PartyBets. The site has set a line on each of the 48 participants, including satellite winners, and the front runners at the moment are JC Tran and online poker pro Tom “durrrr” Dwan.
Both Dwan and Tran are currently going off at 12-1 to take down the shootout style tournament. As a reminder, the event is structured into a series of preliminary heat with the winner of each heat advancing to the final table. The runners-up in each heat will compete in a second chance heat to claim the final slot at the final table. The oddsmakers appear to be impressed with the aggressive style of Tran and Dwan, not to mention their winning records. While Dwan is better known as a cash game player than a tournament player, Tran has been dominating the tournament scene for a couple of years now, winning a World Series of Poker bracelet this summer and recently making the final table of the Asian Poker Tour Macau Main Event.
Other players who received some of the more favorable odds over at PartyBets include Roland de Wolfe, Layne Flack, recent World Championship of Online Poker Main Event winner Yevgeniy Timoshenko and November Nine member James Akenhead. Both Akenhead and Timoshenko survived play on Monday to make the money in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event and each appear to be on quite the hot streak.
Mike Sexton is the Team Party Poker member with the best odds at 15-1. Ian Frazer is towards the top of the pack at 22-1 while Remy Biechel and Bodo Sbrzesny are in the middle of the pack at 27-1 and 35-1 respectively. Felipe “Mojave” Ramos is considered to be one of the longer shots at 42-1, ranking him just above the majority of the online qualifiers as well as actress and poker player Jennifer Tilly, whose line is set at 68-1, tied for the worst odds of the 48-person field.
Dwan’s online nemesis Luke Schwartz is considered to be one of the frontrunners as well with 15-1 odds. Scott Fischman is also going off at 15-1. With the exception of Ramos, most of the players who could be termed “online poker pros” are considered by PartyBets to be the favorites, though established live pros like de Wolfe, Flack, Sexton, Neil Channing (15-1), Phil Laak (18-1) and Andy Black (20-1) are deemed to be safe bets as well.
The World Open matches are set to begin on October 11th and will run through the 15th.  The $10,000 buy-in tournament will be held at The Palm Beach Casino and will be filmed for European television.
