As the date of the Idolo Cup draws nearer, the rosters for the charity soccer event are beginning to take shape. Idolo Cup sponsor PartyPoker recently announced a long list of names taking part for either the European or the African All-Star teams of the upcoming event that is aiming to raise money to fight racism.
Marcelo Lippi of Italy has been tapped to manage the European team while Tony Pulis will man the helm for the African team. Lippi has previously coached the Italian National Team as well as the squad that competed for the country in the 2006 World Cup. Lippi has been named the best soccer manager on the planet twice by the International Federation of Football and Statistics thanks to his winning record and focus on team work and unity both on and of the field.
Though he may not be of African descent, Welshman Pulis will be taking time off from his current position as the coach of Stoke City, a Premier League team based in Stoke-On-Trent England. One of the youngest people to ever receive his coaching credentials, what Pulis lacks in local ties he certainly makes up for in experience.
Some of the players who will be taking part in the event on the European side include Pavel Nedved, Giorgio Chiellini, Zinedine Zidane, Alberto Aquilani, Antonio De Natale, Mauro Zarate, Danielle Mannini and Marco Donadel. The African squad will consist of Didier Drogba, Emmanuel Adebayor, Patrick Vieira, Mohamed Lamine Sissoko, Mahamadou Diarra, Kole Toure and Salif Diao of Pulis’ Stoke City squad. There will be other players added to both squads before the rosters are finalized, but the growing list is beginning to get more and more soccer fans interested in the event.
The Idolo Cup is set to take place on December 21st at 8:30PM in Turin, Italy. The match will be held at the Stadio Olympico and PartyPoker is still offering its Italian users a chance to be part of the action both on and off the field. Players have until Sunday to win a seat into the final Idolo Cup qualifier, which will run on Monday December 14th at 8:30PM CET. The top 35 finishers in the Monday event will receive one of a number of Idolo Cup-related prize packages, including the grand prize which consists of tickets to the event, hotel and travel accommodations and a chance to play cards alongside the soccer stars as part of a special tournament the night before the match.
The prize packages are only available to Italian PartyPoker users who play on PartyPoker.it. Players from elsewhere in the world are ineligible to participate.
