Poker players can expect exciting action at the tables plus a lot of entertainment away from the tables during the Malta Poker Festival (MPF) which runs from October 29 to November 4 at the exquisite Portomaso Casino in St Julian’s.
The week-long affair will offer plenty of options for players to make the most out of their short stay at the European archipelago, with tons of cash games, parties and tournaments filling the schedule.
MPF Grand Event
The MPF Grand Event is scheduled to take place from October 30-November 4 and is expected to attract the most attention as it offers a whopping €500,000 guarantee for an entry fee of €550. The event follows the popular big blind ante format, meaning there will be more hands in each blind level which will ultimately speed up play. Players begin with 30,000 in chips, played in 45-minute levels during the first three flights, and then 20 minutes during the final flight. Single re-entry is allowed per day, within the late-registration period.
After the starting flights, the event will follow a deeper structure, with blinds increasing every 50 minutes on Day 2, and then one hour on Day 3 and Day 4.
The first edition of the MPF Grand Event was a massive success, drawing 1,366 entries to reach €662,510 in total prize pool, much higher than the featured guarantee. This year, the event is expected to attract an even bigger turnout, with a number of players having successfully secured seats through a series of promotions and satellites running in the run up to the festival.
Many players have already secured seats by taking part in satellites on MPF’s online partners such as Intertops, PPPoker, Betsson, Videoslots, and Juicy Stakes. Players still have the opportunity to enter the Grand Event at an affordable price by taking part in the €6 buy-in Gozo Flash Satellite, in which they can win a ticket to the €60 satellites taking place at the Portomaso Casino during the festival.
Last year, Italy’s Emanuele Onnis captured the inaugural MPF Grand Event after outlasting 1,366 for €150,000.
Full Schedule
This year’s schedule is filled with several other exciting events, including the Halloween-themed Special MPF NL Hold’em taking place on October 31. Players should now prepare their best Halloween costume for a chance to win special prizes, on top of the prize pool.
The week-long festival also features plenty of side events in different formats, including the €150 Irish Super Hold’em on November 1, followed by the €250 Hendon Mob Championship on November 2-3 which runs simultaneously with the €1,100 MPF High Roller. Also on November 2, there will be a €170 MPF Bounty Knockout for bounty lovers, while the €340 IPC Deepstack Turbo and the €150 MPF Survive and Win €1,000 will take place on November 3. Four events will run on November 4, including the €70 MPF Last Chance as well as the €200 MPF Win The Cross.
Special Poker Holiday
Alongside a list of exciting poker events, players will also have time to relax and rejuvenate away from the tables through a number of parties happening for the duration of the festival. Participants will be welcomed by an Opening MPF Drinks party at the Portomaso Sports Lounge on October 31, followed by the Opening Players Party on November 1 at Tiffany’s Champagne Bar, and MPF Player’s Party taking place on November 2 at Club Level 22.
Guests and players will be personally assisted by no other than festival director Ivonne Montealegre who recently took the post of International Affairs Director for the Women’s Poker Association. Players can expect VIP treatment while enjoying the action-filled events at the festival. Montealegre said their mission is to make MPF the best poker event in Europe, and they will do their best to achieve that goal by providing a convenient, organized poker schedule, with plenty of options for players to choose from, including cash games running around the clock.
Portomaso Casino makes for a perfect venue for the festival, offering world-class amenities and giving players easy access to Malta’s vibrant nightlife. For the latest updates on the upcoming festival, check out the official website.
