The Los Angeles Poker Classic (LAPC) is one of the most popular poker tours in the United States and has been around for a long time. The 2018 edition of the LAPC is a special one as the LAPC is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The poker tour commenced on Jan 9 and will run till March 1, 2018.
Poker players across the United States have had to battle biting cold and snowstorms to take part in poker events during the last couple of months. However poker players in L.A don’t have to deal with such issues and they are happy to jump in and be a part of the 25th LAPC which is taking place at the Commerce Casino.
LAPC Stars 2018 With A Bang!
The 2018 LAPC will run for close to two months and tournament organizers have put together 67 exciting events that will excite both low stakes and high stakes poker players. The Commerce Casino which has invested heavily into renovating its properties is happy to host the LAPC for its 25th edition and has designed a new logo for the LAPC 25th anniversary.
Poker players who are looking to start their 2018 on a winning note, have multiple options at the LAPC. The highlight of the LACP will be its $10,000 Main Event which has $1 million in guaranteed prize money for the winner. The Main Event winner will also get a seat at the World Poker Tour (WPT) final table. This is a very attractive proposition for poker players and the Commerce Casino is expecting a great turnout for the Main Event.
Some of the LAPC Main Event winners from past editions include the likes of Gus Hansen (2003) who won $507,190, Antonio Esfandiari (2004) who won $1,400,000, Phil Ivey (2008) who won $1,600,000, Chris Moorman (2014) who won $1,020,000 and Daniel Strelitz in 2017 who won $1,000,000.
The first ever LAPC Main Event saw just 136 players in attendance. Those numbers went up with each passing year and the highest player registrations recorded was in 2007 when 792 players signed up and the second highest was in 2010 when 745 players registered. Those numbers have dropped a bit during the last couple of years with 2016 seeing 515 player registrations and 521 in 2017.
Commerce Casino Promoting LAPC
The Commerce Casino is optimistic that the 2018 LAPC will see player registrations go up as the casino has rebranded itself in recent times and is looking to once again establish itself as the number one casino for hosting the best poker tournaments in L.A. Commerce Casino also hosts the California State Poker Championships and the L.A Poker Open. The casino is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year and wants poker players on the West Coast to know that the best poker action is found inside its doors.
In a statement, Joey Hernandez, who heads marketing and promotion for the Commerce Casino said “We’re not reinventing ourselves. We’re embracing who we already are: LA’s home for games of skill, pure and simple; a first-rate hotel, minutes away from the hottest spots in LA; and a welcoming environment.”
The Commerce Casino has decided to throw in an additional $50,000 to the special four ‘Player of the Series’ events. There will be an additional $10,000 added to the No Limit Hold’em Player of the series, another $10,000 added to the Mixed game (non NLH) Player, $10,000 added to the Mega Satellite player and $20,000 added to the best overall player.
Old LAPC Favourites Back For 25th Anniversary
The LAPC removed some of the older events in recent years as they experimented with new and innovative events to cater to a younger audience. However for the 25th anniversary the LAPC will bring back a number of popular events.
Some of these events include the $350 Social Experiment II which will take place on Jan 27, the $115 Throwback Thursday event and the $570 Escalator event. While some of these events don’t have the draw of large prize pools, they are great for having fun and enjoying the game of poker.
