Forty-year-old Les Fenton is the last man standing of the Goliath Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT), a live poker event that lasted 6 days, had a buy-in of £100 + £20, and attracted 1,954 participants. As the champion of the event, Fenton not only received a cash prize of £31,210, but also a ticket to the GUKPT Champion of Champions.

Expressing his feelings regarding his latest poker win, Fenton said that he feels extremely good. He also said, “I’ve entered a few big ones but I haven’t really gone deep for a while, not since my last final table GUKPT Luton 2010] but fortunately it’s finally come round.”

Although Fenton did not have the biggest chip stack when the final table game began, he turned out to be the last man standing at the end of around 5 hours of final table play. Each player was fighting for a share of a breathtakingly large prize pool of £200,000. The last two players left at the table, Les Fenton and Mark Harding, made an agreement that guaranteed them a prize of £26,610 each, plus the entry to the Champion of Champions event and the Grosvenor special prize pot for the winner.

Obviously, both players were more interested in getting into the Champion of Champions event. Eventually, Les Fenton and Mark Harding finished in the first and second place, respectively, with Harding scooping up the runner-up prize of £22,340 while Fenton walked away with £35,800 plus the ticket to the Champion of Champions event.

Fenton was able to create a Straight because he had a Ten of Spades and an Ace of Diamonds when a Jack of Spades, an Eight of Hearts, an Eight of Clubs, and a Seven of Hearts, and a Nine of Hearts were dealt on the table. On the contrary, his opponent had a Seven of Diamonds and an Ace of Spades, owing to which he finished second.

Among the poker players who reached the final table of this event, Sung Hee Yun finished third, Jon Caplan finished fourth, Colin Inskip finished fifth, Gavin Manley finished sixth, Phil Froggatt finished seventh, Jacqueline Burrows finished eighth, and Kris Graham finished ninth.

The GUKPT gave away 25 percent of the total registration fees collected for the live poker tournament to Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charitable institution that has been closely associated with Coventry City Football Club and GUKPT for the past several years.
