The 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) is currently in full-swing at the Rio in Vegas and will come to a close on Nov 23. Thousands of poker players all across Europe travel every year to attend and play at the WSOP. Most of them will miss out on the 2021 WSOP as the United States announced recently that it will lift its international travel ban on Nov 8.
Kings Casino To Host WSOPE
European poker players were content to sit back and wait for the WSOP Europe to make its way over to Kings Casino which is located in Rozvadov, Czech Republic. This will be the first big event that Kings Casino is hosting since COVID-19. The 2021 WSOPE will start on Nov 19 and will come to a close on Dec 8.
The Rio and the WSOP have done a great job so far in running such a huge live poker tournament and not incurring any COVID-19 breakouts. One reason for this is because the WSOP has put in place some stringent requirements to protect both players and staff.
Kings Casino in partnership with the WSOP is set to follow a very similar protocol for the 2021 WSOPE. The casino operator recently announced its list of rules and regulations that players attending the WSOPE will have to comply with. One of the main differences between the rules at the WSOP and the WSOPE will be that COVID-19 vaccinations will not be made mandatory.
COVID-19 Regulations At WSOPE
Kings Casino has confirmed that two categories of players will be allowed to participate in the WSOPE. The first category will be fully vaccinated players who will have to show proof of vaccination. While the 2021 WSOP only recognized four types of vaccines, the WSOPE will accept quite a few more.
Players will have to show proof of two doses if they have taken Novavax, Sanofi-GSK, CureVac, Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and one dose if you have taken Johnson & Johnson/Janssen Pharmaceuticals. The Novavax, Sanofi-GSK, CureVac vaccines are currently under a rolling review being carried out by the European Medical Agency (EMA). Players will have to show proof of being vaccinated 14 days prior to attending the WSOPE.
The second category of players that will be allowed entry to the 2021 WSOPE will be unvaccinated players who can show proof of a negative PCR or antigen test. These four points sum up the requirements of players attending the WSOPE as they need to meet atleast one.
- Negative PCR test that was taken not less than 72 hours of arriving at the WSOPE
- Proof of taking an EU approved vaccine as listed above
- Proof of recovery from COVID-19 within the last 6 months
- Negative anti-gen test taken within 24 hours of attending the WSOPE
Players will have to show their EU Digital COVID Certificate when registering at the WSOPE at Kings Casino.
Czech Republic To Conduct Spot Tests
The Czech Republic has witnessed an increase in COVID-19 cases this month which is a cause for concern as thousands of players are expected to show up at Kings Casino to take part in the 2021 WSOPE.
Adam Vojtěch, health minister has made it mandatory for everyone to wear masks in public from Oct 25. Players attending the WSOPE must wear masks to follow the guidelines outlined by the health minister.
The Czech Republic has also introduced special COVID-19 passes that the public must show when entering entertainment venues. Most venues have not been strict about these passes but that’s about to change as from Nov 1 only individuals with COVID-19 passes will be allowed access.
