Plans are currently being finalized for the launch of the first ever India Poker Tour (IPT), slated to go live in September 2008.The Tour will be comprised of four events, culminating with the Grand Final in Goa, where tournament organizers anticipate the prize pool to hit at least $1 million.
The Tour will kick off in Mumbai in September, followed by Bangalore and Delhi in October, and finally Goa in November.Exact locations, dates, and times, will be announced as they are nailed down.
Players will be able to qualify for the IPT events via satellites, both online and live.The IPT’s online partners will be announced soon.Live satellites will begin in India in June.The IPT is also organizing international qualifiers in order to attract players from around the globe.
"Our goal is to add poker to the pastimes of the card and sport-crazed fans of India," says Imran Hassan, Director of Operations, in a press release. "India traditionally has had a long history of being a card-loving nation. So we hope the launch of the India Poker Tour (IPT) will now help to satisfy India's craving for skill based card games.”
To further encourage participation, the IPT will launch its India Poker Schools, which will travel around the country, teaching people how to play.
