The prestigious India Online Poker Championship (IOPC), one of the biggest online poker festivals in the country, is back for a 12th edition, with the latest series featuring a massive guarantee of 30 Crore!
India’s biggest online poker network, the QuadNet Poker Network, comprising of Spartan Poker, BlitzPoker, and PokerHigh, will play host to the action from January 20 to February 6. Apart from the cash prizes on offer, the series will also award non-fungible tokens or NFTs to the top finishers, courtesy of Spartan Poker, a first in India’s real-money gaming industry.
12th IOPC – Key Details
Players will have a total of 116 tournaments to choose from that they can enter for as low as 550 rupees. There’s huge value on offer across 18 days, plus other exciting prizes, including a leaderboard race where there’s an extra 1 Crore up for grabs. The person who finishes at the top will be named Player of the Series and will walk away with 30 Lakh.
Additionally, there will be freerolls running each week until January 30, where players can win seats to the key tournaments on the schedule.
The festival features a diverse schedule – with events running each day beginning in the afternoon and continuing into the night. There’s something big in store for players no matter their schedule.
The IOPC first ran in 2015 as an online counterpart of the popular live event, the India Poker Championship (IPC). The inaugural online series featured around INR 7 Lakhs in guaranteed prize pool and attracted a modest turnout. The festival has grown significantly over the years, becoming one of India’s biggest online events. It is now held twice a year.
The competition brings together both the pros and recreational players who are on the hunt for huge prize money. The previous edition drew more than 4,000 players, with the Main Event winner taking home 57 lakhs, alongside a diamond-studded trophy.
NFTs Up for Grabs at 12th IOPC
NFTs have recently taken the online world by storm and Spartan Poker is joining the craze by awarding NFTs at the 12th IOPC, becoming the first in the industry to make such a move.
Amin Rozani, Spartan Poker founder and CEO, believes in the promising aspects of the emerging technology and its strong association with the gaming industry. Rozani said NFTs can help in the overall growth of the real money gaming sector and the development of its reward structure, adding that these digital assets can help the RMG transform from a play-to-win model to a play-to-earn model.
Rozani said they’ve always wanted to go the extra mile in providing players the best experience that they deserve. Apart from the generous prize money, the series has been giving away gold trophies and badges to the biggest winners. Now, it’s upping the ante yet again by awarding NFTs.
Rozani said NFTs are digital and futuristic and offer a unique and more secure way of collecting items as they are non-fungible in nature, meaning they cannot be interchanged, copied, or replaced. The winners of the latest series will not only walk away with monetary prizes, but they’ll also receive NFTs. They can hold them and see the value increase over time. Rozani said their players are excited about it and the IOPC team just can’t wait to give them out.
Online poker continues to be popular in India despite the legal challenges the industry faces. Rozani said the game is dominating the online gaming spectrum for many reasons – it’s easy to learn while at the same time challenging to master. It involves a wide range of stakes, formats, variants, and strategies. Beyond the fun and competitive aspect, players also learn some important life skills from the game.
