Global Poker League Releases Player Payment Rates And Encourages More Players To Apply

The Global Poker League (GPL) promises to be one of the biggest poker tournaments in the world and its parent company Mediarex Sports and Entertainment has roped in 12 of the most well known poker players in the world to be managers for the 12 franchises.
On the 25th of February, the GPL will organize a Draft Day where the 12 franchises will be able to bid and select up to 3 players to be part of their franchise teams. These GPL is accepting player applications from players who are ranked within the top 1000 on the Global Poker Index, another company that is owned by Mediarex.

The GPL has also released remuneration and payment details regarding what players can expect by participating in the GPL. Tournament organizers confirmed that players will be paid at $100 per hour and should be able to play between 35-50 hours during the first season of the GPL. Players who take part in the season 1 of the GPL will have their rate increase to $150 during season 2 of the GPL.
Players will also be eligible to receive twenty percent of the $100,000 winner’s purse as well as collect the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and an attractive bonus. The GPL will play for all travel related expenses and give players twenty five percent revenue that is generated from licensing agreements, sponsorships and merchandising related activities.
Mediarex CEO Alex Dreyfus confirmed on the 25th of January that 16 players had already registered for the GPL and encouraged more players to register by going to http://www.globalpokerleague.com/apply/
Poker legend Daniel Negreanu who has earned over $32 million in career prize money was not selected as one of the 12 franchise managers because he did not commit to the GPL and is also yet to make up his mind if he will participate in the GPL.
In a statement, Negreanu said “I am supportive of Alex {Dreyfus} and his vision. I think he has the right approach in mind but regarding myself and associating my brand, I am playing a wait and see approach. I wasn’t ready at this point to commit fully to playing a large role in being a team manager.”
There are rumours that Negreanu might not register for the GPL draft but make himself eligible later as part of the wildcard selection process.
