GGPoker made a big announcement at the 2021 World Series of Poker (WSOP) when it welcome Jason Koon as its latest brand ambassador. Koon now joins a list of top GGPoker ambassadors which include Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu, German high roller Fedor Holz and Frenchman Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier.
Who is Jason Koon?
Jason Koon is one of the most respected high-stakes poker players in the world and has over $32.5 million in career prize money. Koon currently sits in 10th place on the All Time Money list and in 7th place on the U.S All Time Money list according to the Hendon Mob. He has done very well for himself playing the Triton Super High Roller series over the years.
His biggest live poker cashout to date was at the 2018 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro, Budva when he took down the HK$ 1,000,000 No Limit Hold’em – Short Deck Ante Only 1M and collected over $3.5 million in prize money. Koon is also coming of a big at the PokerMasters tournament in September 2021 when he finished in second place at the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em event and took home $442,000.
Koon was previously signed to partypoker but the two decided to part ways in July 2021. The poker pro from West Virginia was at the 2021 WSOP preparing to play the $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em which started on October 3.
GGPoker Happy To Bring Koon On Board
There were rumors circulating around the last few days that GGPoker had a big announcement in the pipeline but no one was quite sure of what to expect. Bringing Koon onto the list of brand ambassadors is a big move for GGPoker as it looks to strengthen its presence in the U.S market.
GGPoker has blitzed the competition in the last three years and has challenged PokerStars, something that partypoker and 888poker have struggled to do for years. GGPoker knocked PokerStars out from the number one spot in terms of cash game traffic in the U.S and continues to strengthen its market presence with strategic promotions and the signing of big name brand ambassadors like Jason Koon.
In a statement, John Scanlon, GGPoker’s director of sponsorships and live events said “At GGPoker, we view ambassadors as part of our overall team. We want them as bought into keeping GGPoker the #1 site in the world as we are. Jason’s reputation and how he handles himself personally and professionally makes him an ideal Global Ambassador. Having a player of his caliber providing advice and direction, and representing the most committed segment of our player community, is invaluable for us.”
Daniel Negreanu also welcomed Koon to the team and said he was a fantastic addition to GGPoker’s brand ambassador list as Koon would help to bring in a lot of high stakes poker players to GGPoker going forward.
Koon Happy To Sign With GGPoker
While Koon has some great accomplishments playing live poker, he has also spent a number of years playing online poker and brings with him expertise in game integrity. Koon has a reputation amongst his peers of being one of the most ethical poker players on the circuit and GGPoker will leverage Koon’s reputation to boost its brand image in terms of ethical play.
Koon said he was happy to sign with GGPoker and represent the values that GGPoker stood for. The timing of this announcement is also great for GGPoker as it made heads turn at the 2021 WSOP. GGPoker recently announced another $10 million giveaway in freerolls during October 2021.
