On January 20, 2015, the National Judicial Customs Department (SNDJ) of France arrested Arnaud Mimran for alleged involvement in several homicide and fraud cases. Mimran, who makes most of his money from real estate, is a widely acclaimed professional poker player too.

He had planned to take part in the first World Series of Poker (WSOP) Big One for One Drop tournament, an event with a buy-in of $1,000,000, which was held at WSOP 2012. It may be recalled that Antonio Esfandiari had emerged as the champion of this event. Although he did not ultimately take part in the Big One, he had played in several live poker tournaments such as the Monte Carlo leg of the European Poker Tour (EPT) of 2006, in which he finished 13th and won €28,100.

The SNDJ has now taken Mimran away from his luxurious lifestyle as it is convinced that he is involved in several fraud cases and homicides. The Le Journal du Dimanche (LJDD) of France reports that Judge Guillaume Daieff has sentenced 43-year-old Mimran to preliminary arrest as he is convinced that Mimran is involved in a carbon tax fraud of the 2000s. Law-enforcement authorities say that Mimran and his associates might have made illegal profits in billions of Euros by organizing a VAT fraud. In addition, they feel that the entrepreneur is involved in several homicide cases.

The French press says that Mimran could be involved in the murder of 45-year-old Samy Souied, who was shot dead in Paris in 2010. Souied, who is also believed to have been involved in the carbon tax fraud, had visited Paris for a day to meet Mimran and discuss certain investment deals worth up to €50 million. The French authorities now want Mimran to give a detailed account of his income and assets.

Between 2010 and 2012, Mimran had declared that he earned an annual income of €45,000. However, he lives in a lavish apartment that sprawls over 400 square meters and has facilities such as a swimming pool. The apartment is located in an exclusive area in Paris. Mimran is also believed to have paid VIPs such as Bar Refaeli, the top model; PuffDaddy, the rapper; and Pharell Williams of the music industry, to appear at a bar belonging to his son.

He is also believed to have been involved in the murder of billionaire Claude Dray, who happened to be his ex father-in-law.
