ESPN2 will air the highlights of the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) 2011 the following Sunday, a piece of news that has been greeted with great delight by US poker fans.
The WSOPE was played in Cannes in October, and Elio Fox of New York won the WSOPE Main Event, picking up a cool cash prize of $1,927,310 and the prestigious WSOPE bracelet. Poker fans who are interested in knowing how exactly the poker event in Cannes was played can view the same in six exciting installments.
The TV channel will broadcast six episodes of 60 minutes each on Sunday between the hours of 18:00 and 00:00 EST, with the first episode dealing with the Caesars Cup tournament.
Popular professional poker players such as Ben Lamb, Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, Jason Mercier, and Phil Hellmuth participated in the Caesars Cup as part of Team Americas. The US players were eager to take revenge for the defeat they had suffered at the hands of Team Europe in the 2009 event.
Team Americas, however, will have to play against tough opponents such as Tony G., Jake Cody, Maxim Lykov, Gus Hansen, and Bertrand Grospellier, which means plenty of exciting poker action for poker fans watching it on ESPN2. Needless to say, Team Europe emerged as the victorious team once again.
The rest of the shows will deal with events such as the WSOPE Main Event, which had a buy-in of €10,400. Poker player Fox won this event at a final table featuring poker pros from seven different countries, emerging at the top of a player field of 593 and grabbing a whopping prize of $7,836,414.
Poker enthusiasts who watch the action on ESPN2 can also watch out for top poker pros such as Shawn Buchanan, Cody, Arnaud Mattern, Chris Moorman, and Patrik Antonius. The analysis and commentary will be provided by the immensely popular Lon McEachern and Norman Chad.
Ty Steward, the executive director of World Series of Poker (WSOP), said enthusiastically: “We continue to be proud of our deep relationship with ESPN to deliver fresh programming to poker fans. As the only European tournament broadcast in the United States, WSOP Europe has become one of the most prestigious events in the world in just a few years’ time.”
The Caesars Cup will be shown at 18:00 on Dec 18 Sunday, and the Main Event of WSOPE will be show at 19:00, 20:00, 21:00, 22:00, and 23:00.
