Coren made a name for herself when she won the 2006 European Poker Tour along with the admiration and respect of the poker community as she was the first woman to win the EPT. The event was a televised poker tournament that came fast on the heels of an earlier win at the Celebrity Poker Club 2005. Her fiancé, David Mitchell is an actor and the two had met over a year ago on a quiz show.
In addition to being a poker player, Coren is also the poker show host for Only Connect – a quiz show. The poker player is also a columnist for two newspapers, namely The Guardian and The Observer and has written a book called For Richer, For Poorer: A Love Affair with Poker.
Now, it would turn out that Coren is feeling a new love and is ready to be Mrs. Mitchell. The engagement made the news when her fiancé, David Mitchell in a rather traditional manner decided to announce their engagement in the newspaper – The Times by placing an ad in the Birth, Marriages and Deaths section. “MR D.J.S. MITCHELL AND MISS V.E. COREN. The engagement is announced between David, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ian Mitchell, of Oxford, and Victoria, daughter of Dr Anne Coren and the late Mr. Alan Coren, of London,” the ad read.
David Mitchell, is best known for his comic roles and has starred in a TV series called the Peep Show.
Surprisingly, Coren and Mitchell had managed to keep their relationship out of the public eye to a large extent, but the recent announcement has started making the rounds.
Coren, who is also a member of the PokerStars Team Pro UK, commented on her engagement when she was congratulated by her fans on Twitter by saying, “I’m very happy.” Mitchell was more vocal about the event and tweeted, “Having received so many lovely messages today, I’m finally coming round to the internet. Thank you all. I’m incredibly happy,”
Coren often plays poker professionally and can be found on the PokerStars sites; she also enters most large poker tourneys and has a total of $1,500,000 or so worth of live tourney earnings.
