Doyles Room recently announced that it had quit the Cake Poker network, and this move sounded the death knell of the floundering network. Currently, Cake Network is not experiencing good profits and has declined steadily; this is especially noteworthy in comparison with last year, when the network was at the height of success, having been assigned the 8th rank on at around this time.
Last February, around 2,250 ring-game players played for real money over 7 days at Cake Poker, but this week, the number has dropped to 710. The network, which once enjoyed the 8th rank on, now occupies the 25th position.
In March 2010, the poker network lost Lock Poker, after which it lost Players Only Poker and Sportsbook Poker, a fact that had an adverse affect on the flow of player traffic to the network. However, the loss of poker sites wasn’t the only problem with Cake Network. During the fall last year, posted that it had succeeded in cracking the network’s encryption, alarming online poker players and making them doubtful about security issues at the network. This was the major fact that led to the collapse of a once successful network.
To make matters worse, Lee Jones, the card room manager of Cake Network, and Serge Ravitch, the tournament director, resigned late last year. Jones said that he was not comfortable with certain strategic decisions at the network. And recently, Doyles Room quit the network, sounding the death knell of the network. Although the network has recently included Victory Poker and created Unabomber Poker, irreparable damage has already been done to Cake Poker. If the network ever wants to climb back to its original 8th rank, it will have to rebrand itself because there seems to be no other way for the network to get back to where it once was.
Meanwhile, Doyles Room announced that it will soon be moving to Yatahay Poker Network. A Doyles Room representative said that the purpose of the move is to provide players “a customized poker experience.” Currently, rumors are flying around that many more poker rooms are planning to move away from the Cake network.
Doyle Brunson, the owner of Doyles Room, says that the new software will help the poker room customize its features, customer service, promotions and offers. He also says that this will give players a customized online poker experience with great incentives and lucrative promotions. Existing players will be automatically shifted to Yatahay network.
