Dominik Nitsche, a poker player known to the poker world as the King of Cards, is a globe trotter who insists that his secret of success as a poker pro is down to him studying the game of poker game rather than depending on luck to win.
Unlike games like the lottery, poker players have a modicum of control in the results of the game. It’s not just about luck. His pedigree in the game lends credence to his claims. The 27-year-old is one of the world’s most successful poker players of all time. He’s made millions by knowing how to keep secrets, particularly his moves and intentions at the felt.
Living Low-Key Instead of Being a Rock Star
Throughout his career, the nondescript young man has won close to £10 million in live poker tournaments all over the world. Most people won’t even give him a second glance in his signature faded jeans and hoodie ensemble. However, Nitsche is actually a millionaire cut from the same eccentric cloth as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs (who were also known for their simple fashion choices).
Although he has the money to live like a globe-trotting rock star, the quiet-spoken King of Cards prefers approaching life the same way he approaches the poker table: Low-key. Nitsche insists he isn’t interested in five-star hotels, private jets, and flashy cars like Porsche’s and Ferrari’s. The multi-millionaire does not even own a car and lives in a small apartment in Edinburgh, Scotland with his student girlfriend Morgane Portier.
Humble Beginnings
When Nitsche was 16 years old, he was a typical directionless teenager. He began playing poker with his friends after school around that time after seeing it in action on television. From there, in a short period of time, he proved to be a naturally talented poker player. He focused on online poker and had massive success at numerous online poker websites accumulating more than £2 million in winnings. Nitsche believes his love for the game along with his strategic thinking has helped him become a successful poker player.
Move From Germany To Scotland Has Worked Well
The German poker pro decided to see if he could have the same level of success playing live poker tournaments and that’s when he started to travel around the world.
In a statement, Nitsche said “A few years ago I was living in London with a couple of other poker players and they suggested going to see the Edinburgh Festival. I fell in love with the city straight away and decided to move there. I love the people and the restaurants and it is an easy city to walk in. I can’t see myself living anywhere else.”
The move to Edinburgh has worked well for him as it is where he met the love of his life. His winning streak also kept getting stronger and Nitsche has had a fabulous 2017 playing poker. In November, Nitsche won the WSOPE One Drop High Roller Event at the King’s Casino in the Czech Republic and won £3 million after beating some of the best poker pros in the world. In December, he won a cool £88,000 for finishing in 7^th place at Eurasian Poker Tour in Prague.
Nitsche Shares His Secrets Of Success
Nitsche credits his dedicated to studying the game and making daily improvements to his play as the main factors that have helped him become one of the top high stake poker players in the world today. He travels the world playing live poker tournaments and has been in the money in 22 countries.
Nitsche also adopts a strategy of allowing investors to back his play and help him buy-in to a number of these high stake events around the world. This eases the pressure of him having to shell out all of the buy-ins himself and prevents him from bearing all the losses. The poker pro also admits that he has no fear of losing and usually adopts a 50-50 strategy where he puts in 50 percent of the buy-in and has his investors pump in the remaining 50 percent. When he wins, he shares his winnings with his investors. This strategy has proven successful for the King of Cards and he will continue to use it in 2018.
