When PokerStars announced that it would be holding a second edition of the PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em Players Championship (PSPC), poker players from all over the world were delighted as the inaugural edition of the PSPC which took place in Jan 2019, set the record for being the largest poker tournament with a $25,000 buy-in.
2020 PSPC – Barcelona, Spain
PokerStars held the 2019 PSPC in the Bahamas but decided to shift the location for the 2020 edition to Barcelona, Spain. PokerStars confirmed that the 2020 PSPC will take place during the EPT Barcelona and will be held at Casino Barcelona from August 20 to 24.
Once the second edition was confirmed, poker players wanted to know if there was going to be another Platinum Pass give away. The Platinum Pass promotion was a great success in 2019 that allowed poker pros from all over the world to enter the PSPC without having to pay the buy-in.
PokerStars gave out 320 Platinum Passes for the inaugural edition of the tournament and Ramon Colillas who was a recipient of one of these Platinum Passes went on to win the tournament and take home a whopping $5.1 million in prize money.
2020 Platinum Passes – Details
PokerStars confirmed that it will once again be giving away Platinum Passes to the 2020 PSPC and will give players multiple opportunities to do so. The Platinum Pass has an estimated value of €26,000 which includes the €22,500 buy-in to the PSPC, 6 nights accommodation for two at a 5 star hotel, €1,250 in expense money, airport transfers, PSPC merchandise and invites to special events that are hosted for all Platinum Pass winners.
Poker pros are eager to get their hands on a Platinum Pass as it will not only give them an opportunity to win millions of dollars but will also give them an opportunity to travel and visit Spain. There are a number of ways for players to win a Platinum Pass. We look at a few below:
Online Mega Path
If you are predominately an online poker player, then you can look at the Mega Path promotion. The Mega Path promotion takes place every week in 2020 leading up to the PSPC. There is usually a 4 step process based on whether players want to enter the promotion for free or pay the $2 fee and skip the first stage of the process.
If you pay the $2 free, you go directly to stage 2 of the process and compete in a sit and go event with 27 players. The winner gets a ticket to stage 3 where a multi-level tournament will take place every Sunday. The top 15 players in this event will take part on Sunday in a PSPC Qualifier event and the winner will get a Platinum Pass.
Live Event Path
If you are a live tournament player, then PokerStars also has a number of options for you. Most of these Platinum Passes are up to be won at PokerStars sponsored tournaments but there are also a few passes being given away at non-PokerStars sponsored events.
These live poker tournaments will take place at different locations around the world, enabling poker players from all parts of the world to qualify for a pass. Check the PokerStars website, to find the latest list of poker tournaments which have a Platinum Pass waiting to be won.
Special Promotions
PokerStars will also hold a number of unique and special promotions in the coming months that will allow players to win a Platinum Pass by taking part in these different challenges. Some of the passes will be given away via PokerStars mystery chest rewards program, via a Twitch stream promotion and through online qualifiers for its sit n go events.
PokerStars will be releasing more information as 2020 progresses about these special events which have Platinum Passes waiting to be won. So far, as many as 48 players from around the world have already won Platinum Passes for the 2020 PSPC!
