Daniel Negreanu recently won the first place prize at the WPT Playing for a Better World tournament. However, he did not get to take home the winnings as the event was held for the sake of charity with the hope to generate funds that could be used to create positive change in the world in areas affected by poverty and hunger.

The WPT Playing for a Better World is a charity poker event that comprises a series of tournaments and other poker shows that are sponsored by the WPT Foundation. The recent charity poker tournament WPT Playing for a Better World was held at the SLS Hotel located in Beverly Hills and was attended by several poker celebrities and big names from other industries as well.
Daniel Negreanu, who has become somewhat of a champion of the people, after he had spoken out on the terrible situation that ex Full tilt Poker players are still in, turned out to be the player of the day when he sat down against a table of top poker professionals and took the first place prize at the WPT charity tourney. The poker event hosted buy-ins at a high price of $500 and saw big numbers generated at the table.
After winning the event, Negreanu tweeted out his victory to the world. “Guess who won the WPT Foundation event? If you guessed ME you are a genius! Loads of fun,” he said.
At the event, Negreanu was among other poker professionals like Maria Ho, Barry Greenstein, Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree and Vanessa Rousso who were all there by invitation only. The poker players also auctioned off free poker lessons to those who bid at a silent auction held as part of the WPT charity event. The WPT Playing for a Better World was also attended by basketball star Pau Gasol, from the Los Angeles Lakers and the actress Maria Bello.
Steve Heller, the chief executive officer of the WPT was happy with the outcome of the tournament. “As the premier name in internationally televised gaming and entertainment, World Poker Tour is dedicated to using our extensive reach to affect positive change.
