Coral, an online poker room based in the UK, will become functional at the top tier of iPoker Network from May 1. The company migrated from Ongame to iPoker last May.
Although there are several skins on the iPoker Network, not all of them are eligible to enter the network’s top tier. Online poker rooms ought to have the ability of registering at least 850 new players per month and maintaining a base of 6000 active players in order to qualify for the top tier.
Reportedly, the poker skins on iPoker Network’s top tier have a larger number of recreational poker players playing at their mid-stakes NL Texas Hold’em cash game tables. The online poker skins on the iPoker top tier are believed to have a greater marketing advantage over other poker skins on the iPoker Network.
Last week, iPoker announced that it would upgrade its software, but the upgrades are likely to be introduced into the poker skins on its top tier first. Coral poker players will be able to benefit from these upgrades, including a brand new Elite VIP loyalty level, almost as soon as the online poker room joins the iPoker Network.
The iPoker Network is now the second largest network as far as player traffic to its cash games is concerned. The number one online poker room, needless to say, is PokerStars.
iPoker’s focus on its recreational player base is increasing, and in order to cater to the requirements of its recreational players, it has launched features such as anonymous tables. A spokesperson for Coral said: “Since our move to iPoker from Ongame last October, we’ve seen increased numbers in terms of revenue and active players every single month, so much so we have doubled in size culminating in our promotion to the top tier.”
The online poker network’s newly launched tier system appears to have greatly benefited Playtech, its owner. However, Playtech’s total poker revenue has fallen by 18 percent. According to Playtech’s recent financial report, bingo earns more than poker. Although Playtech’s poker revenue fell by 18 percent, its bingo revenue rose by 9 percent when compared to the corresponding quarter last year. However, the combined revenues generated by Playtech’s bingo and poker are much smaller than its overall revenue of €87.5 million, which is 16 percent more than its revenue last year.
The UK-based Gala Coral Group generates more than £1 billion annually and employs more than 18,000 people worldwide.
