888poker is currently running the latest edition of its flagship low-stakes tournament series, the ChampionChip Series. The festival got underway on August 8 and will run through August 16, featuring 25 events with a combined guaranteed prize pool of more than $700,000.
Players are able to choose among Low, Medium, and High buy-in events across more than a week of online action. The initial tournaments have already played out over the past few days, and so far the results have been great.
Successful Opening Day
Event #1: $33 buy-in, $30,000 GTD Opening Ceremony awarded $41,220 in total prize money after attracting 1,374 entries, surpassing its initial guarantee by a huge 33%.
When the dust settled, it was Canada’s “donkeybabe99” who emerged as the winner, earning $6,022 in top prize. Apart from the winner, five other finalists were able to take home four-figure payouts, including Russia’s “PV4817777” who finished 2nd for $4,402, and the UK’s “craigaces21” who finished 3rd for $3,235.
The two other events which took place on the opening day, the High Jump and Triple Jump tournaments, fell short of their respective guarantees, but the $4000 in rake generated by the Opening Ceremony was more than enough to cover the losses.
The $5.50 buy-in, $7,500GTD High Jump tournament was won by “DorianMD” for $1,297, while the $3,000GTD Triple Jump was taken down by “dolphin15” for $548. Both winners hail from Ukraine.
The outcome was pretty much the same on the second day. The first event, a $22 buy-in, $15K GTD Boxing tournament, pulled in a total of 855 entries to generate $17,100 in total prize pool. The $5K GTD Karate event hit its target after attracting 963 players, while the Judo event slightly missed its $3K guarantee, with 818 entries.
We are still awaiting the official numbers for the other completed tournaments, but so far, things have generally been positive for the festival, a solid proof that ChampionChip remains popular among low-stakes players.
Main Event Starting Flights Ongoing
At least 10 events have yet to be completed, including the biggest tournaments on the schedule, the $15K GTD Marathon (Deepstack), the $15K GTD Sports Climbing (PKO), the Mini and Micro versions of the Main Event, and the $500K GTD Main Event itself.
The Main Event is a multi-flight tournament, with Day 1s running since July 18. Players have until August 15 to enter the event, for a chance to win a share of the massive $500K guaranteed prize pool for a buy-in of only $50. The action will play down to a winner on August 16.
Those who are keen on winning a free seat into the Main Event can do so by participating in daily ChampionChip freerolls. To qualify, players must have made deposits into their accounts. 888poker is also running a promo for new players, as they too can win a free ticket into the Main Event. They simply need to make a first deposit of at least $10 using the bonus code “CHAMP”.
