The Big One for One Drop was a poker tourney that recently took place in Las Vegas and was won by Antonio Esfandiari. The event was scheduled to take place alongside the World Series of Poker and gave out a prize of $18.346 million to Antonio Esfandiari, the lucky player who won the event. The Big One for One Drop brought in $10 million USD for the foundation.
Mitch Garber, the chief executive officer for Caesars Interactive Entertainment commented on the culmination of the One Drop and discussed the tournament scheduled for the next year. “It was an honor to be a part of such a special event that raised a total of $10 million for charity, including $5.3 million for One Drop and shone a positive light on the poker community.”
“By working with the showman, Guy Laliberté, we have learned there was only one choice. An encore. We look forward to collaborating with Guy and One Drop to continue to find fun and exciting ways to make a positive and lasting contribution through the vehicle that is the great game of poker,” Garber added.
Guy Laliberté, the chairman of the One Drop tourney that was won by Antonio Esfandiari was pleased with the outcome of the event and announced the One Drop for the next year. “It’s amazing what you can achieve when you dream. We took the concept of a $1 million poker tournament and turned it into the most successful poker initiative ever held. As a result, over 100,000 people will be positively impacted. Projects in Honduras, El Salvador, and West Africa have already put to use the money we raised in the initial event…With the ‘Little One’ and the ‘Big One’ on the horizon, we can continue to greatly impact the lives of those in need, while at the same time raising awareness of the impact water has on our planet.”
Players who enjoyed the Big One for One Drop event this year will surely be looking forward to the Little One and the Big One that will be held in the next consecutive years, namely 2013 and 2014. Kara Scott, a well know name in the poker player community also commented on the scheduled events. “The World Series of Poker is one of the most legendary poker tournaments and the Big One For One Drop, an event which creation marked this year and which attract the attention of all poker enthusiast, promises to remake its reappearance in 2014,” she said.
