The Global Poker Index (GPI) is considered to be one of the leading poker ranking websites across the world and was responsible for introducing the first ever GPI American Poker Awards in 2015 which proved to be a massive success.
The GPI has announced that the second edition of the American Poker Awards will take place in Beverly Hills, California on the 25th of February at the SLS Hotel. The awards ceremony will be preceded by the American Poker Conference at the same venue. The conference will bring together some of the biggest poker brands in the world, popular poker players and gaming analysts who will look to discuss the future of poker in 2016, the rise of the eSporting industry, Daily Fantasy Sports, the role of women in poker today and poker media strategies.
Poker pro Byron Kaverman will receive the 2015 GPI Player of the Year Award and women poker pro Kelly Minkin will receive the 2015 GPI Female Player of the Year based on the GPI player rating. Apart from this there will be a total of eleven awards distributed during the night covering a number of categories such as poker initiative or innovation of the year, media content of the year, poker presenter of the year, charitable initiative of the year, industry person of the year, breakout performance of the year and tournament performance of the year.
The GPI has also announced the nominees for each category and some of them are listed below. The nominees for the event of the year which had a buy-in of over $2,000 include the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, Hollywood, FL; Super High Roller Bowl, ARIA, Las Vegas; WSOP One Drop High Roller, Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas and the WSOP Main Event, Rio All-Suites Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.
The nominees for moment of the year include Daniel Negreanu busts 11th in WSOP Main Event; Anthony Zinno goes back-to-back, winning WPT Fallsview, WPT L.A. Poker Classic; Phil Hellmuth wins bracelet #14 in WSOP Razz Championship and over 22,000 players who entered WSOP Colossus for chance at a gold bracelet. The nominees for media content of the year include Joe Giron shoots photo of Negreanu crumbled on the floor after WSOP Main Event elimination; BUST, an Insider’s Account of Greenville’s Underground Poker Scene (Brad Willis); Jason Somerville’s record Twitch Broadcast during WCOOP in September 2015 and Faraz Jaka: Homeless Poker Millionaire, CNN Money (Jaka, Gayles, Carson).
