Alex Fitzgerald, who plays under the moniker Assassinato, is not just a great poker player, but also a great poker coach. He has been writing magazine articles and blog posts for the past several years. Simultaneously, he has tutored seven students through Assassinato Coaching, his coaching program. He is now getting ready to launch his first book, “The Myth of Poker Talent: Why Anyone Can Be a Great Poker Player.”
Created in partnership with D&B Publishing, the 336-page book will be released in the US in Aug 2016. A month later, it will be released in Europe.
D&B Publishing says: “The Myth of Poker Talent is a unique book and is the culmination of renowned poker trainer Alex Fitzgerald’s work with over 1000 students over a 10 year period. Alex has discovered what makes a winning poker player and here’s the good news… It has nothing to do with poker talent. If you want to excel at the game you’ll need to buy this book, study Alex’s method and work hard – but you don’t need talent. Alex’s method focuses on understanding generic poker situations and not specific hands. As a highly experienced teacher, he expresses his ideas in simple, easy-to-understand language.”
Recently, PokerNews.com interviewed Fitzgerald. When asked to talk about himself, Fitzgerald said that he couldn’t go to college because he was poor. Since he lost his childhood home because of the family’s poverty, he had to finish his high school senior “in a friend’s garage, without heating or plumbing.” He started playing poker because he couldn’t figure out any other way to make money. In 2006, he became a professional poker player and got the opportunity to visit 40 countries, live in four continents, and reach the final tables of WCOOPs, FTOPs, and EPTs.
Speaking about his book, he said that he was contracted by D&B Publishing and Jonathan Little to contribute a chapter to Excellent at No Limit Hold’em. When the book was released, readers told him that they loved his chapter and “wanted to read more” from him. Once again, D&B approached him and they decided to write an entire book.
Fitzgerald says that his book will teach players to think like a pro and reach their own conclusions. He has given players “the most complete blueprint” on how to play the game while simultaneously informing readers where he got his ideas from. The book also challenges players to improve Fitzgerald’s poker model if possible.
