888poker Signs Two Year Partnership With Swedish Poker Federation

888poker has continued its strategy in 2016 of working with domestic providers in local markets to build its brand reputation and increase its market presence. The second biggest online poker website in the world recently announced that it has entered into a two year agreement with Svenska Pokerförbunde and will now be the official host of the online edition of Poker-SM (PSMO), which is also known as the Swedish Poker Championships.

The Svenska Pokerförbunde or the Swedish Poker Federation (SPF) was established in 2004 as a not for profit organization and has committed to utilizing all the revenue it generates from corporate sponsorships and membership fees to further the popularity of poker in Sweden. The organization is responsible for hosting an annual live poker and online poker tournament that is open only to poker players in Sweden.
The SPF had partnered with the Rational Group (the parent company of PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker) for the past few years to host the online edition and satellite events for the PSMO. However this year the SPF decided to go in for a change and partner with 888poker for the 2016 and 2017 editions of the tournament.
In a statement, Mauritz Altikardes, CEO of Poker Event said “I’m very excited that 888poker is becoming our partner for the coming two years. I believe that this is exactly what the Swedish Poker Federation needs, a committed partner that wants to support the online community and grow with it.”
888poker will host the online edition of the 2016 PSMO from May 24 to 30 and will feature a total of 12 events which will be headlined by the $160 PSMO Main Event that is scheduled to take place on May 29 & 30. The tournament is expected to draw a significant amount of poker player and the main event will be the star attraction as it is based on an exciting format that involves thirty minute blind levels and 20,000 in starting chips.
The winner of the main event will be able to take home a significant chunk of prize money and will also be eligible to enter the 2016 PSMO live event in Malta which has a buy-in of €750.
888poker will also host two satellite events on May 24 & May 27 where the respective buy-in will be priced at $5.50 and $12. Player who take part in these satellite events will be eligible to win a maximum of two guaranteed seats at the PSMO Main Event.
